Part-Time Pastoral Minister for Young Adults

Overview

The Paulist Center is an intentional community in the Roman Catholic tradition. We are an inclusive community dedicated to vibrant worship and social justice ministry. We value full and active participation of all in the worship community and its ministries. Members of the community travel to our downtown location from towns and cities across Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

The Young Adult community (21-39 years old) strives to be welcoming to all at the Paulist Center. This group seeks to live out its faith through community, service, and spirituality, offering a number of social, service-oriented, and faith-building events, including: monthly dinners after the Sunday 6pm Mass; happy hours in neighborhoods throughout Boston; small-group and discussion panels on faith and spirituality.

The Young Adult Minister is supervised by the Executive Director and collaborates with the Director of Outreach & Evangelization, as the Paulist Center focuses on relationship-building with a new generation of young adults. The Young Adult Minister will take the lead in designing and implementing a ministry plan, working with the pastoral team.

Responsibilities:

Young Adult Ministry

• Organize, and coordinate Young Adult faith formation program
• Coordinate happy hours, social events, service opportunities and other theological, spiritual and educational activities
• Facilitate Young Adult weekly spiritual sharing group
• Serve as liaison with Suffolk University’s Interfaith Center, Emerson College’s Campus Ministry, and Young Adult programs at area churches and other colleges
• Provide one-on-one pastoral meetings
• Creatively think of additional ways to engage and attract young adults

Other Responsibilities

• Assist with wider Paulist Center events, as needed
• Staff front desk or help with other administrative needs of the Center, as needed
• Use social media to share about Young Adult social and service activities, as well as other events happening at the Paulist Center

Workweek: Must be available to work Sunday late afternoon/evenings and attend 6PM Mass; and other days/evenings as agreed upon with the Executive Director.

Qualifications: Current student or recent graduate in MDiv or Master of Theology. Must be a practicing Catholic with demonstrated leadership ability in ministry either as a volunteer or in a professional position. We are looking for someone who is relational; comfortable serving the pastoral needs of young adults; enthusiastic about his/her/their Catholic faith; and has good communication skills including public speaking and social media.

Estimate of Time and Compensation: 20 hours per week with the realization that some weeks might occasionally have more hours and some may have less. Compensation is at an hourly rate of $30-35/hour.
