    The ANSOB Center was opened 26 years ago with the mission to help refugees and immigrants adjust to life in the United States. Our comprehensive set of services is designed to assist individuals and families as they overcome the challenges of relocating to a new country.

    The Ansob Center for refugees and immigrants is a Non-Profit organization serving refugees, asylees, and immigrants by offering Free ESL Classes , Free Citizenship Classes, and Free Immigration Legal Services including applying for citizenship , Green Card applications , Work Permit applications , DACA renewal , GC renewal , travel documents, and family based petitions .

    We are looking for an EXPERIENCED Immigration Paralegal who is committed and reliable. The Immigration Paralegal will be responsible for supporting the Immigration Attorneys and the DOJ Accredited Representative in order to provide legal assistance and information to our clients .

    We are looking for a proactive, dynamic, and enthusiastic team player looking to ready to support a high volume workspace in a close knit Immigration Services non-profit office in person based in Astoria, Queens as an Paralegal/Administrative Assistant.

    The paralegal responsibilities will include the following tasks :

    • Schedule and conduct intake appointments and immigration screenings for clients who are seeking immigration legal assistance.
    • Provide clients up-to-date information and guidance on immigration policy changes.
    • Working closely with immigrants in person gathering legal documents and requirements, supervising document preparation from staff, and drafting prefills for USCIS addendums and forms including N400, I90, I485, I765, family based petitions, AR11 forms, NOC & fee waiver applications
    • Interpret and translate documents and flyers from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English as needed .
    • Work with the Immigration Attorneys and DOJ Accredited representative to assist immigrants in becoming US Citizens or get other immigration benefits
    • Help clients in completing and gathering documents for various USICS applications
    • Follow up with clients by phone, email, or mail about their interviews or any other USCIS correspondence .
    • Perform administrative tasks including answering phones, faxing, photocopying, scanning, and mailing relevant documents and applications.
    • Perform outreach activities for the program .
    • Responsible for monitoring immigration legal services program to ensure smooth workflow supervised by a DOJ Accredited Representative & Attorneys
    • Point of Contact for legal immigration referral networks, that include screening and resolving client inquiries and log inquiries
    • Schedule legal appointments and manage calendars for the legal team

    Administrative responsibilities:

    • Calendaring, Responding promptly to emails
    • Registering students & Database Management for tracking attendance for ESL/CIVICS classes
    • Answering Calls, Emptying with details, and responding to the voicemail system to support retention of students and clients
    • Updating Marketing Wix Email Contacts, updating Email Marketing
    • Represent Ansob for Events and Meetings / Event Coordination

    Basic Qualifications:

    Bachelors Degree

    • Must be fluent in English and Spanish
    • Must have experience with Excel/Google, data entry, data validation, formulas
    • Must be familiar with USCIS filings
    • Client services professionalism & pleasant manner in person and over the phone

    Position Days and Hours: Monday, Tuesday , Wednesday and Thursday between the hours of 10 am to 5 pm (varies based on need )

    Flexibility in the schedule is preferred as this part time position might lead to a full time position based on funding and the candidate's performance.

    Qualifications :

    Strong interest in working with refugees and immigrants. Fluent in English or native speaker. Ability to speak a second language (Spanish) is strongly desirable .

    Bachelor’s Degree, with a minimum of one to two years experiences in immigration legal services required.

    Broad knowledge of immigration law and procedures required.

    Experience in Citizenship applications, Green Card Applications and family based petitions .

    Other relevant degree and experience to be eligible to become accredited with the Department of Justice within six months of hire.

    The Candidate must have strong computer skills and proficiency working with Microsoft Word and Excel as well as performing data entry tasks.

    Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

    Detail oriented and respectful to all cultures and backgrounds .

    Must be flexible and willing to help out when and where needed.

    Our hours are flexible as the Center is open Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 6 pm .

    At least 20 hours a week would be needed .

    Level of Language Proficiency
