    Description

Justice in Motion protects migrant rights by ensuring justice across borders.

In the face of overwhelming legal and practical barriers, many migrants who have suffered exploitation or abuse at the hands of employers or government officials give up their rights after leaving the United States. Other migrants who flee abuse, violence, and persecution are unable to remain in safety due to lack of evidence to support their claims.

These migrants need “portable justice” – the right and ability to access justice across borders. Justice in Motion is dedicated to ensuring portable justice through legal, educational, and policy initiatives in the U.S., Mexico, and Central America. Essential to this transnational model is our Defender Network, a unique partnership of on-the-ground human rights organizations in Mexico and Central America. Justice in Motion makes sure that wherever migrants go, their rights will follow.

This role will contribute to the organization by ensuring our work is shared with our external constituents in a meaningful way, in order to drive more interest to the issues we work on and support the annual fundraising goals of the organization.

    The Position

As the Communications Department continues to grow, the Communications Associate will play a foundational role in strengthening Justice in Motion's communications capacity. The Associate will support strategic communications efforts by leading visual content development, social media management, email marketing, website updates, and data analytics.

This role is ideal for an early-to-mid-career communications professional who is seeking mentorship, skill-building, and increasing responsibility within an organization. The ideal candidate will be a creative self-starter who enjoys collaboration and thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a communications professional with strong graphic and digital skills, organizational savvy, and a passion for ethical storytelling, advocacy, and human rights.

    Ideal Candidate Profile

Strong candidates for JiM’s Communications Associate role will bring the following to the position:

    • 1-5 years of relevant experience in communications, graphic design, digital marketing, or related fields.
    • Professional English/Spanish fluency: This role requires bilingual fluency in spoken and written English and Spanish, including professional presentations, spontaneous interaction, and engagement with Spanish-speaking audiences like our Defender Network. Learn more about this requirement under the “Required Professional Language Fluency” section of this job description.
    • A great communicator: Both in writing and in person, able to quickly and effectively tell the right story that resonates with that particular audience. This is someone who has demonstrated experience writing a wide range of communications and PR pieces, fundraising collateral, policy materials, and website content – and is comfortable with public speaking and engaging with journalists, partners, and community members with both cultural and linguistic (English/Spanish) fluency.
    • Proficiency in graphic design tools, especially Canva and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
    • Experience managing social media platforms, with understanding of best practices, trends, and analytics.
    • Familiarity with email marketing platforms and website content management systems. Preference given to candidates with experience in advocacy platforms (e.g. Action Network).
    • Detail-oriented, collaborative, and comfortable working independently in a remote setting.
    • Adaptability: Ability to pivot when the day’s news requires a new direction.
    • Innovative: When managing multiple platforms, you can identify trends, spot issues, and look for new opportunities to spread the messaging of the organization.
    • Connected to our mission: Experience with or passion for migration or labor rights, and a general understanding of the context of these issues is a plus.
