    Communications and Education Coordinator

    Description

    The Communications and Education Coordinator will be responsible for managing the organization's communications infrastructure, public-facing content, and educational programming. This includes maintaining our SharePoint site, producing routine newsletters, managing social media and public relations efforts, staffing the Community Advisory Board, and planning and executing educational events. The ideal candidate will have strong writing and digital communication skills, comfort with content management platforms, and the ability to manage multiple projects and timelines effectively. An interest in health advocacy, public health education, and community engagement — particularly for immigrant and incarcerated communities — is a plus.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Newsletter Production: Draft, design, and distribute routine organizational newsletters, ensuring consistent messaging, timely content, and alignment with CMLC's mission and voice.
    • SharePoint Management: Maintain and update the organization's SharePoint site, ensuring that internal documents, resources, and communications are current, organized, and accessible to staff, volunteers, and stakeholders.
    • Community Advisory Board Support: Coordinate and support the Community Advisory Board, including scheduling meetings, preparing agendas and materials, documenting minutes, and facilitating follow-up on action items.
    • Social Media & Public Relations: Manage CMLC's social media presence across platforms. Develop and execute a content calendar, draft posts and campaigns, monitor engagement, and serve as a point of contact for external media and public relations inquiries.
    • Educational Event Planning: Plan, coordinate, and execute educational events including community workshops, trainings, webinars, and panel discussions. Manage logistics from promotion through post-event follow-up.
    • Content Development: Create and curate written and visual content for external communications, including event flyers, one-pagers, blog posts, and informational materials.
    • Brand Consistency: Ensure all public-facing communications maintain a consistent organizational voice, visual identity, and messaging aligned with CMLC's mission.
    • Documentation & Reporting: Track communications metrics (newsletter open rates, social media engagement, event attendance) and provide regular updates to leadership.
    • Administrative Support: Assist in organizing and maintaining records, contact lists, media assets, and other documentation related to communications and educational programming.

    Compensation:

    The compensation for this role is a blended pay model, which includes both a base retainer and additional compensation for any extra hours or projects:

    • Base Retainer: The Communications and Education Coordinator will receive a base monthly retainer of $1,120 for managing routine communications and educational programming over an 8-week period, assuming 8 hours per week (approximately 32 hours per month). This covers the core responsibilities of newsletter production, SharePoint maintenance, social media management, Advisory Board support, and educational event coordination.
    • Per-Event Fee: For educational events or campaigns that exceed the baseline scope, an additional per-event fee of $150 will be paid.
    • Hourly Compensation: For additional tasks or hours that go beyond the retainer, the coordinator will be paid at an hourly rate of $40/hour.

    Contract Extension:

    If hired beyond the trial period, the contract will be re-evaluated for extension at four months, based on performance, project volume, and organizational needs.

    Qualifications:

    • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and SharePoint.
    • Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact) and social media management tools.
    • Strong writing, editing, and visual communication skills.
    • Exceptional organizational and time-management abilities.
    • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Interest in advocacy and organizing, especially related to immigrant and incarcerated populations.
    • Experience in communications, public relations, event planning, or a similar role is preferred.
    • Direct or adjacent experience in public health, clinical, or legal settings is a plus (including lived experience).
    • Commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards.

    Please Note

    • Flexibility with hours: While regular business hours are typical and to be expected, some tasks may require coordination outside of regular hours, including evening events, Advisory Board meetings, or time-sensitive social media responses. Hourly flexibility can be mutually agreed upon and revisited periodically based on needs.

    Benefits

    1099 Contract Position, no benefits, time off is unpaid (but supported with coverage).
