Position Summary
The Director of Real Estate & Property Management provides strategic leadership of GJDC's 500,000+ square-foot mixed-use real estate portfolio and leads a multidisciplinary team of 10 responsible for property management, leasing, transactions, redevelopment initiatives, and portfolio performance. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director partners with executive leadership, public agencies, development partners, legal counsel, brokers, consultants, and community stakeholders to execute complex real estate transactions, maximize asset value, and advance redevelopment projects that support GJDC's mission and long-term financial sustainability
Essential Responsibilities
- Real Estate Development & Strategy: Lead strategic redevelopment initiatives from concept through implementation, overseeing project planning, feasibility analysis, vendor and developer selection, regulatory approvals, and public-private partnership initiatives.
- Asset Management: Provide strategic oversight of GJDC's mixed-use real estate portfolio by maximizing asset value and performance, identifying opportunities for capital investment and supporting long-term portfolio growth.
- Property Operations and Maintenance: Lead a multidisciplinary property management team while providing executive oversight of maintenance, tenant services, building operations, vendor management, regulatory compliance, operating budgets, capital planning and performance standards to ensure efficient operations and exceptional tenant service.
- Leasing & Transactions: Lead leasing and transaction activities across GJDC's portfolio, including leasing strategy, negotiation of complex real estate agreements, broker management, and transaction execution.
- Stakeholder & Community Relations: Serve as GJDC's primary real estate representative to public agencies, community boards, elected officials, community organizations, lenders, development partners, and other stakeholders to advance organizational priorities and neighborhood revitalization.
- Governance & Compliance: Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and organizational policies. Prepare and present recommendations to executive leadership and the Board on real estate transactions, portfolio strategy, and other key initiatives.
Qualifications & Preferred Experience
- Bachelor's degree in real estate, urban planning, business administration, finance, public administration, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- 8–10 years of experience in commercial real estate, asset management, development, economic development, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience negotiating complex commercial real estate transactions and managing multi-property portfolios.
- Strong knowledge of real estate development, including entitlement, construction, financing, regulatory approvals, and public-private partnerships.
- Proven financial management, budgeting, contract administration, and capital project management experience.
- Experience in leading and developing professional staff, with excellent written, verbal, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Experience with commercial leasing, mixed-use development, nonprofit organizations, public agencies, or economic development organizations preferred.
- Knowledge of New York City real estate and land use processes preferred.
- NYS real estate broker license and/or salesperson license a preferred.
Compensation: $145,000–$165,000, based on qualifications and experience.
