    Description

    DoSomething seeks a collaborative, engaging, and innovative Community Manager to cultivate and manage DoSomething’s membership. The manager will focus on driving authentic engagement with our members, building brand loyalty, and nurturing member interaction across social media and the DoSomething platforms.

    Reporting to the Vice President of Programming & Impact, the Community Manager contributes to DoSomething’s mission and vision by devising the strategies and tactics to meaningfully engage young people. They will develop a deep understanding of what brings value to members, and will inform the organization’s strategy and implementation of programming that builds relationships, educates and equips members with the knowledge, skills, tools and resources to be active citizens and leaders. This role is for an individual who is an enthusiastic, community-focused and self-motivated professional operating from the mindset that all young people are potential members whose journeys need to be nurtured and supported.

    THE POSITION

    Reporting to the Vice President of Programming & Impact, the Community Manager contributes to DoSomething’s mission and vision by devising the strategies and tactics to meaningfully engage young people. They will develop a deep understanding of what brings value to members, and will inform the organization’s strategy and implementation of programming that builds relationships, educates and equips members with the knowledge, skills, tools and resources to be active citizens and leaders. This role is for an individual who is an enthusiastic, community-focused and self-motivated professional operating from the mindset that all young people are potential members whose journeys need to be nurtured and supported.

    Objectives for the position:

    • Developing and implementing community engagement strategies that align with the company’s goals and objectives.
    • Managing and growing our online community presence across various platforms, including social media, forums and our membership platform.
    • Monitoring and responding to community members’ inquiries, comments and feedback in a timely and professional manner.
    • Collaborating cross functionally to ensure consistent messaging and support for community initiatives.
    • Reviewing member metrics and trends to identify opportunities for improvement and growth.
    • Organizing and hosting virtual events and community meetups to engage and connect with our members.

    WHAT YOU’LL DO

    Responsibilities include:

    • Member cultivation + content development
      • Manage a cohort of DoSomething ambassadors: members who help bring our mission to life by coaching and developing their leadership skills.
      • Co-develop creative copy for social media content (including posts, polls, videos, webinars, etc.) for online platforms, ensuring it is relevant and engaging to members and aligned with the company’s brand voice.
      • Provide project management to ensure coordination and delivery of social media creative assets
      • Monitor community platforms for discussions, issues and trends and provide insights to the relevant teams.
      • Develop and enforce community guidelines to maintain a safe and respectful environment for all members.
      • Coordinate with marketing and product teams to align community activities with larger organizational goals.
    • Member analysis and impact
      • Gather and analyze feedback from members to inform marketing, product development and program improvement.
      • Track and report on community engagement metrics, including member growth, activity levels and sentiment.
      • Keep abreast of industry trends, best practices and emerging youth engagement trends to continually enhance community engagement strategies.

    WHAT YOU’LL BRING

    • You have a passion for relationship-building, youth development and engagement, and motivating others to act
    • 2+ years of experience with online community building and member engagement. Direct experience creating content for young people is strongly preferred.
    • You use creativity, flexibility, and problem-solving abilities to work in new and changing environments
    • Exceptional written communication, empathy, and conflict-resolution skills.
    • Proficiency with social media management software (e.g., Sprout Social, Hootsuite) and community platforms.
    • You prioritize projects and have exceptional time management skills
    • You are proficient in Google Suite
    • You have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • You have excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
    • You foster an entrepreneurial mindset and culture within an organization
    • You have strong attention to detail
    • You have a passion for DoSomething’s mission, vision, and new strategic direction

    WHO YOU ARE

    • You have a passion for and experience working with young people in a youth development, volunteer management, or nonprofit capacity. You can interpret the core behaviors, motivators, and needs of young people today.
    • You can speak to the current and historical barriers to civic participation, especially among BIPOC youth and other historically marginalized and underrepresented groups.
    • You have strong communication skills and the ability to adapt messaging, style, and tone to accommodate a diverse range of audiences internally and externally and persuade others to gain their support
    • A team player with highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate
    • Solutions-oriented and able to navigate complex or constrained situations to find solutions, intuit where to compromise and where to hold firm, and consistently deliver on required business results
    • An analytically minded thinker; able to synthesize complex information, connect ideas and transform data into insights that are actionable, inform strategic and tactical business decisions, and are presented in a digestible, easy-to-understand manner

    You believe in young people and are curious about the needs and wants of young people across the spectrum of identity and difference. You believe their involvement in civic engagement, democracy, human services, etc. has the power to change young people, their communities, and the world!
