    Description

    As a vital member of the SWB Bay Area Team, the Coach-Mentor Fellow plays a pivotal role in providing leadership and guidance to our participants. The primary responsibility of the Coach-Mentor is to ensure the effective implementation of the SWB program, fostering an environment where participants can thrive.

    Direct Service Responsibilities Team Leadership (10%)

    • Actively engage in weekly meetings with the Bay Area team.
    • Foster and maintain healthy relationships with Site Staff and the local community.

    Direct Service (70%)

    • Lead comprehensive, holistic, and youth-centered programming for newcomer youth year-round, including after-school and summer activities.
    • Coach two high school girls’ soccer teams in San Francisco, leading one team during one season and the other team during a separate season.
    • Plan and facilitate programs using the 9-point practice plan and Complete Season Checklist.
    • Lead recruitment and retention efforts for players.
    • Monitor and advocate for academic progress.
    • Prepare for games, including coordinating transportation with the Supervisor.
    • Communicate with schools and teachers regarding participant needs, and organize necessary meetings.
    • Engage students and families, including conducting house visits and facilitating mentor matches when required.

    Program Support (20%)

    • Contribute to ensuring the smooth operation of SWB Bay Area by securing necessary resources, including timely monitoring and reporting of attendance and academic progress, as well as coordination with SWB staff.
    • Attend and lead Friday Deep Dive sessions.
    • Provide support for physical plant maintenance.

    Required Skills and Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
    • Excellent written communication skills, particularly via email.
    • Exceptional organizational abilities and the capacity to prioritize tasks effectively.
    • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to work.
    • Proficient problem-solving skills with a penchant for innovative solutions.
    • Meticulous attention to detail and a track record of meeting deadlines.
    • Dedication to the potential of all young people and belief in the transformative power of sports for social change.
    • Experience with team sports and/or sports-based youth development organizations.

    Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

    • Proficiency in Spanish.
    • Valid driver’s license.

    Time Commitment

    The Coach-Mentor Fellow position is a full-time (40 hours/week) position based in Oakland and San Francisco, CA. The typical schedule is Tuesday–Saturday, 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Occasionally, this position will require evening or additional weekend work.
