    Description

    Justice Forward Virginia and the Justice Forward Virginia Foundation seek as its next Executive Director a passionate advocate for criminal justice reform who loves connecting with people and being an ambassador for social change. The ideal candidate would be as comfortable meeting with state legislators and lawyers from large law firms as they are with one-on-one community members impacted by the criminal justice system. We seek a self-motivated candidate who enjoys giving educational presentations in the community, sharing their passion for criminal justice reform with others, and working collaboratively with advocacy partners.

    Required qualifications:

    • Passion for improving the criminal legal system
    • Comfort talking to others about raising money, policy, and legislation
    • Self-motivated and forward thinking
    • Ability to translate complex concepts into plain language.
    • Ability to travel in Virginia for meetings and events. Ability to be in Richmond, VA frequently during the General Assembly Session. (Night and weekend work may be required, especially during the General Assembly session)
    • Willingness to learn about in-depth issues in the criminal legal system in Virginia and the workings of the Virginia General Assembly.
    • Knowledge about individual giving fundraising Ability to work collaboratively with others across the political spectrum and the advocacy community on issues of common importance.

    Preferred qualifications:

    • Grant writing experience
    • Understanding of and demonstrated experience with nonprofit management
    • Understanding of the Virginia General Assembly process
    • Prior experience with Virginia criminal legal system either as an advocate or directly impacted person, or through a policy lens.

    Other:

    This position is fully remote, but, as stated above, the Executive Director will be expected to at times attend meetings and events in various parts of Virginia and to frequently attend sessions and committee meetings of the Virginia General Assembly in person in Richmond.
