The Lincoln Square Business Improvement District (BID) is seeking an experienced, strategic, and creative Director of Marketing & Engagement to join our leadership team during an exciting period of organizational transformation and growth. With new leadership and renewed momentum, the BID is reimagining how it tells the story of Lincoln Square, strengthening community partnerships, and elevating one of the world's premier cultural and commercial districts. This is a unique opportunity for a visionary marketing professional to build and lead a dynamic communications and engagement strategy that will have a lasting impact on one of New York City's most recognizable neighborhoods.
Reporting directly to the President, the Director of Marketing & Engagement will lead the BID's integrated marketing, communications, branding, and community engagement efforts. The successful candidate will be an accomplished storyteller, relationship builder, and strategic thinker who combines creativity with exceptional project management skills. The Director of Marketing & Engagement will oversee the BID's public-facing brand, drive innovative marketing initiatives, strengthen stakeholder engagement, and elevate Lincoln Square's visibility locally, nationally, and internationally.
This role works closely with the President, Board of Directors, staff, consultants, public relations partners, and neighborhood stakeholders to develop compelling campaigns that showcase the BID's impact and position Lincoln Square as a premier destination to live, work, shop, dine, and experience world-class culture. Key Responsibilities
Strategic Marketing & Communications
- Develop and execute a comprehensive, integrated marketing and communications strategy that advances the BID's mission and strategic priorities.
- Oversee all marketing channels, including the website, email marketing, social media, digital advertising, print collateral, annual reports, presentations, newsletters, and promotional campaigns.
- Manage brand positioning and ensure consistent messaging and visual identity across all communications and public-facing materials.
- Identify and implement innovative marketing initiatives that increase awareness, visitation, business engagement, and neighborhood pride.
Storytelling & Public Relations
- Lead the BID's storytelling efforts by developing compelling content that highlights neighborhood improvements, economic development, placemaking initiatives, public safety programs, sanitation services, beautification projects, and community partnerships.
- Collaborate with staff and public relations consultants to develop press releases, media pitches, interviews, and proactive communications strategies.
Community & Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and strengthen relationships with local businesses, property owners, cultural and educational institutions, residents, community groups, elected officials, and City agencies.
- Represent the BID at community meetings, neighborhood events, public forums, and stakeholder gatherings.
- Develop partnerships that expand the BID's visibility, enhance programming, and strengthen community engagement.
Digital Strategy & Brand Management
- Oversee the BID's digital presence across all online platforms.
- Ensure marketing content reflects Lincoln Square's unique identity and reinforces the organization's strategic goals.
- Collaborate with graphic designers, photographers, videographers, web developers, and other creative partners to produce high-quality marketing materials.
Events & Organizational Promotion
- Support the marketing and promotion of neighborhood events, seasonal campaigns, business initiatives, public programs, and the BID's Annual Meeting.
- Develop sponsorship and promotional materials that elevate the BID's profile and strengthen community participation.
Analytics & Performance Measurement
- Track marketing performance using data, analytics, photography, and other metrics to evaluate campaign effectiveness.
- Prepare reports that communicate program outcomes, marketing impact, stakeholder engagement, and neighborhood success stories.
- Recommend data-informed improvements to marketing and engagement strategies.
Qualifications & Skills
The ideal candidate is a collaborative, energetic, and highly organized communications professional who enjoys both strategic leadership and hands-on execution.
Candidates should possess:
- Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, communications, public relations, community engagement, economic development, nonprofit management, government, business improvement districts, or related fields.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills with outstanding attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to develop integrated marketing strategies and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to collaborate across diverse constituencies.
- Confidence representing an organization through public speaking, presentations, media interactions, and community engagement.
- Strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience planning and promoting public events or placemaking initiatives.
- Experience supervising staff, consultants, or creative vendors.
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; Website content management systems (CMS); Email marketing platforms; Social media management; Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator; Experience with motion graphics, animation, Salesforce, CRM platforms, or digital analytics tools is a plus.
- Familiarity with Lincoln Square, the Upper West Side, and New York City's cultural landscape is highly desirable.

The Lincoln Square BID serves as the steward of Lincoln Square—the gateway to Manhattan's Upper West Side. Working collaboratively with businesses, property owners, world-renowned cultural institutions, residents, elected officials, and City agencies, the BID promotes and enhances one of New York City's most vibrant mixed-use neighborhoods. Our work extends far beyond marketing. We supplement essential City services while advancing initiatives that improve neighborhood cleanliness, public safety, beautification, economic vitality, placemaking, transportation, and the public realm. As a trusted convener and catalyst for positive change, we help ensure Lincoln Square remains a thriving destination for residents, workers, businesses, and millions of visitors each year.
This is a full-time in-office position that includes occasional evening meetings and events. Salary is commensurate with education and prior work experience. Salary: $100,000 - $115,000 (commensurate with experience) plus benefits
