    ABOUT NEXT

NEXT Harm Reduction ("NEXT Distro") is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization founded in New York State in 2018. NEXT works to provide online and mail-based harm reduction resources to individuals who are unable to access in-person services through its program NEXT Distro (nextdistro.org). Over the past several years, NEXT has experienced significant growth in both programming and funding, and we are seeking a part-time Fiscal Director to lead our finance function through this next chapter. NEXT currently uses QuickBooks Online and maintains all records electronically. Our physical office is in New York City.

    WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a deeply experienced nonprofit finance professional, preferably with harm reduction experience. Someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and genuinely enjoys working as part of a team. The right person for this role thrives in a collaborative environment and brings a team-first orientation to every interaction.

The right candidate brings both precision and heart to their work. They can zoom out to see the organizational landscape and zoom in on the details without losing either. They bring a steady, grounded presence and communicate with intention.

Experience working alongside or in service of people who use drugs, sex workers, people living with HIV/AIDS, or people experiencing homelessness is something we value deeply and will give meaningful weight to in our process. If you are newer to this space, a genuine curiosity about our mission and a willingness to learn about the communities we serve is equally welcome.

    ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a part-time position for a seasoned nonprofit finance professional who thrives in a dynamic, mission-driven environment. The Fiscal Director will oversee NEXT's financial systems, manage a diverse grant portfolio, ensure full compliance across all funding streams, and provide regular financial reporting to leadership. They will supervise and collaborate with an experienced bookkeeping consultant who handles day-to-day transactions including payroll, accounts payable, credit card reconciliation, and invoicing.

NEXT has never had an adverse audit finding, maintains timely relationships with vendors and funders, and takes its fiscal obligations seriously. The right candidate will honor that track record while strengthening our systems, policies, and reserve fund.

A collaborative team is in place to support this person's success, and the role has the potential to grow into a full-time position. To ensure a smooth transition, the incoming Fiscal Director will be onboarded by our current fiscal consultant, who will share institutional knowledge and remain available for ongoing support as needed.

    • Manage a portfolio of grants including reimbursable, deliverable-based, restricted, unrestricted, state, local, and federal awards

    REQUIREMENTS

We recognize that experience can be gained in many ways. Candidates who do not meet every requirement but believe they are a strong fit are encouraged to apply.

A background check will be required. A criminal record does not automatically disqualify candidates and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis in accordance with applicable law.
