    Advocate – Nonprofit Law Office

    The Legal Aid Society of Greater Cincinnati is seeking a full-time Advocate interested in helping families build stability and overcome barriers related to housing, education, and poverty. This is an in-person position based in our downtown Cincinnati, Ohio office that also includes community-based work.

    Legal Aid is Southwest Ohio’s largest non-profit law firm. Our mission is to reduce poverty and ensure family stability through effective legal assistance. Our attorneys represent individual clients in preventing evictions and foreclosures, addressing domestic violence and divorce, fixing unsafe and unhealthy living conditions, accessing health and income benefits, overcoming barriers to employment, or resolving school problems. Legal Aid provides legal assistance in Hamilton, Butler, Clermont, Warren, Brown, Clinton, and Highland counties.

    POSITION DESCRIPTION AND QUALIFICATIONS

    This paralegal advocacy position involves direct work with children, families, tenants, schools, and community partners. Responsibilities include:

    • Working directly with clients to identify urgent housing and education needs and available supports;
    • Assisting families experiencing housing instability, unsafe housing conditions, or risk of eviction;
    • Supporting children and families facing school enrollment barriers, attendance concerns, discipline issues, or unmet educational needs;
    • Working collaboratively with attorneys and other advocates to support legal advocacy for clients;
    • Participating in outreach and community engagement activities; and
    • Maintaining accurate case notes and outcome tracking in Legal Aid and partner databases.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Applicants should possess a bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or a related field. Master’s degree or equivalent relevant professional or community-based advocacy experience preferred. Additional requirements include:

    • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including people experiencing crisis, trauma, or housing instability;
    • Ability and willingness to learn legal systems, school systems, and community resources relevant to client advocacy;
    • Ability to capture information accurately while conducting a telephone or in-person interview;
    • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to details;
    • Experience working with low-income communities, youth, or families;
    • Reliable transportation to attend outreach events, meetings, and community-based activities (mileage reimbursed); and
    • Experience in advocacy, case management, education, housing stability work, youth services, or related fields preferred.
