    Description

    Physicians for Social Responsibility Colorado is the state chapter of a national organization of health professionals and public health advocates working to protect human health from the gravest threats of our time — including climate change, environmental toxics, and nuclear weapons. Guided by the medical community's trusted voice, PSR Colorado advocates for evidence-based policies that safeguard the health of Colorado communities. PSR CO has approximately 1540 members. Approximately one-sixth are health professionals. We are governed by a board of directors composed of mainly health professionals.

    Position Summary

    PSR Colorado seeks a Volunteer Coordinator to work in close collaboration with the Program Director to grow and energize our volunteer and membership base. This is a relationship-centered role: the Coordinator will be the connective tissue between PSR Colorado and the health professionals, students, and community members who power our advocacy. The ideal candidate is an organized, personable self-starter with experience in volunteer coordination, community organizing, or nonprofit communications.

    Core Responsibilities

    Volunteer Organizing (primary focus)

    • Respond promptly to volunteer sign-ups and inquiries
    • Organize database of volunteer interests and skills in the following focus areas:
      • nuclear proliferation ar and nuclear waste
      • Data center development
      • clean transportation
      • building electrification
      • anti-fracking
    • Manage and maintain our CRM including inputting new members, following up on old members and becoming familiar with volunteer “Notes”.
    • Recruit new volunteers from our membership base and the broader community
    • Onboard and train volunteers for advocacy and event roles
    • Sustain volunteer engagement through regular outreach and relationship-building
    • Organize and co-lead regular volunteer briefings with the Program Director on ways to participate in events and advocate for better policy outcomes
    • Fundraising & Membership Recruitment
    • The Volunteer Coordinator will not be responsible for any direct fundraising but will support fundraising outreach to current and prospective members
    • Recruit new members and bring new contacts into action on our issues and events
    • Help steward donor and member relationships

    Additional Responsibilities (a plus, based on skills and interest)Event Planning & Management

    Plan and conduct internal and external events, including:

    • Public-facing community events
    • Audience-specific events (e.g., health professionals, students)
    • Fundraising events

    Communications

    Support PSR Colorado's communications across channels, including:

    • Member communications via email and action alert platforms
    • Social media
    • News media outreach
    • Correspondence with public officials

    Reporting

    Provide a monthly report to the PSRCO board of director

    Report hours monthly to the Finance Committee.

    Benefits

    This is a part-time contractor position and unfortunately we cannot provide benefits. Although this would initially be a six-month contract, we are able to extend this.

    Level of Language Proficiency

    • At least two years’ experience in volunteer coordination, community organizing, nonprofit programs, or a related area
    • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
    • Working familiarity with Google Workspace
    • Comfort reaching out to new people by phone, email, and in person
    • Reliable organization and follow-through in a part-time, largely self-directed schedule
    • Commitment to PSR's mission of protecting public health and the environment
    • Background or interest in public health, environmental health, or health advocacy

    Preferred (not required):

    • Experience with event planning
    • Familiarity with Every Action CRM or basic email/action alert platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Action Network) and social media management
    • Fundraising or membership development experience
    • Spanish language
