    Description

    Description

About SHF: Founded in 1969, Settlement Housing Fund is a nonprofit affordable housing organization. We own and operate 3,147 affordable apartments across New York City and are currently creating and preserving additional 3,031 apartments. We provide social services through on site support to ensure housing stability for tenants who have transitioned from shelters into permanent housing at our buildings and those of other owners. We serve as an HDFC nominee to provide private developers with access to City financing to expand the supply of affordable housing. We are a leader in tenant selection and affirmative fair housing, leasing hundreds of units annually for other affordable housing owners.

JOB SUMMARY: The Tenant Services Coordinator role works with a roster of tenants in a residential building operating under the NYC Department of Social Services (DSS) AHS Master Lease program to address barriers to housing stability and successful tenancy. In coordination with each household, the Tenant Services Coordinator is responsible for providing advocacy, delivering direct support services, and intervening during crises to support housing stability and overall well being of our residents.

    • Deliver direct tenant support services, including move in assistance, service referrals, housing stability support, and crisis intervention.
    • Meet regularly with assigned tenants on site in their apartments, in the building, in the community, and/or in the office to address challenges impacting housing stability; frequency of contact is based on tenant need.
    • Support tenants during move in by orienting them to their unit, building policies, house rules, and available on site and community based services.
    • Conduct intakes, assessments, and goal planning with tenants to identify service needs and appropriate interventions.
    • Provide direct advocacy, problem solving, and supportive services related to tenancy issues, lease compliance, arrears prevention, and housing retention.
    • Coordinate and provide referrals to internal and external service providers, including benefits and entitlements, medical, mental health, substance use, education, employment, and other community based supports.
    • Serve as a liaison with property management to address maintenance issues, lease related concerns, move ins, and other tenancy matters.
    • Respond to tenant crises in coordination with supervisors, building staff, and emergency, clinical, or community partners as appropriate.
    • Attend appointments with tenants as needed to support access to services and resolution of housing related issues.
    • Maintain complete, timely, and accurate case notes, tenant records, and service documentation in accordance with DSS AHS Master Lease program standards and organizational requirements.
    • Participate in required staff meetings, case conferences, supervision, trainings, and program compliance activities.
    • Ensure departmental deadlines, documentation requirements, and performance expectations are consistently met.
