    Description

    Disability Rights DC (DRDC) at University Legal Services, https://www.uls-dc.org/protection-and-advocacy-program/disability-rights-dc/, is the federally-mandated Protection and Advocacy Program for people with disabilities in the District of Columbia. DRDC advocates for the right of people with disabilities to be free from abuse, neglect and discrimination and be fully integrated into their community.

    DRDC is seeking to hire a 20-hour-a-week advocate/law clerk. This position will advocate for children and adults with disabilities seeking quality community-based services and supports, prepare training materials and reports, and monitor and conduct trainings in institutions, schools and in the community to educate people with disabilities about their rights, the services available, and inclusion.

    Qualifications:

    • Required: Graduate of college and preferably law school student or graduate
    • Required: Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Required: Demonstrated commitment to public interest work and/or disability rights
    • Preferred: Experience working with people with disabilities

    Benefits

    This position is 20 hours per week, with a flexible schedule and the option to work one day per week remotely.

    Level of Language Proficiency

    Proficiency in Spanish and/or ASL is a plus.
