Tech Turn Up is a Washington, DC-based nonprofit and creative impact organization that empowers people, organizations, and communities to discover, create, build, and lead through our Creative Learning Journey™.
Our youth programs provide hands-on opportunities for young people to explore emerging technologies, develop new capabilities, solve problems, create meaningful projects, and build confidence using technology.
Work Location: In person at an assigned Washington, DC program site
Position Overview
Tech Turn Up is seeking energetic and engaging Part-Time Technology Instructors to facilitate hands-on technology learning experiences for youth at our Washington, DC program sites.
We are specifically looking for individuals with experience or strong working knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) and emerging technology
- Robotics
- Coding and computer science
Experience with digital design, app development, web development, 3D printing, physical computing, game development, or other creative technologies is also valuable.
This is a limited part-time position of approximately 4–8 hours per week, primarily during after-school hours. This opportunity may be a strong fit for technology professionals, college or graduate students, educators, teaching artists, or other skilled individuals who enjoy helping young people learn through creating, experimenting, and problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate engaging, hands-on technology activities and projects for youth.
- Guide students through learning experiences involving coding, robotics, AI, and other emerging technologies.
- Help students move from exploring technology to creating, building, and demonstrating their own projects.
- Adapt activities for different ages, skill levels, and learning needs.
- Encourage creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
- Support the setup and use of laptops, robotics equipment, digital tools, and other program technology.
- Maintain a positive, safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
- Collaborate with Tech Turn Up staff on lesson preparation, program themes, and student learning goals.
- Participate in required staff training and program preparation.
- Provide feedback on student participation, progress, and demonstrated capabilities.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience or working knowledge in at least one of the following areas: AI, robotics, or coding/computer science.
- Ability to explain technology concepts in an approachable and engaging way.
- Interest in working with youth and helping them develop confidence and capabilities using technology.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Dependability and ability to consistently support scheduled programming.
- Ability to successfully complete required background screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with children or teens through education, after-school programs, camps, mentoring, tutoring, or youth development.
- Experience with tools or platforms such as Scratch, Python, robotics kits, generative AI tools, web development, app development, or similar technologies.
- Experience facilitating project-based learning or Design Thinking activities.
- Relevant coursework, degree, certification, professional experience, or demonstrated projects in technology, computer science, engineering, design, education, or a related field.
A specific degree is not required if you can demonstrate relevant technical skills and the ability to effectively engage young people.
Schedule & Program Locations
This position is approximately 4–8 hours per week, primarily during after-school hours.
Tech Turn Up is currently seeking instructors to support in-person programming at partner sites in:
- Georgetown — Northwest Washington, DC
- Brookland — Northeast Washington, DC
- Washington Highlands — Southeast Washington, DC (Ward 8)
Candidates may be assigned primarily to one program location based on program needs, availability, technical expertise, and geographic preference. Applicants should indicate which location or locations they are available to support.
Occasional staff training, planning sessions, or special program events may also be required.
Compensation
$23–$30 per hour, depending on relevant experience, demonstrated technical skills, and experience working with youth.

Benefits
This limited part-time position does not include traditional employee benefits. Tech Turn Up provides paid staff training and professional development opportunities, opportunities to gain hands-on experience with emerging technologies and youth-centered learning, and the potential for additional program hours as opportunities become available.
Level of Language Proficiency
Professional working proficiency in English is required to effectively communicate with students, staff, and program partners. Additional language skills are welcome but not required.
