    Description

We are seeking a creative and proactive multi-talented Marketing Manager to build and scale the Marketing function for Unify America’s Civic Gym program.

    About Unify America

We’re on a mission to replace political fighting with collaborative problem-solving. Yeah, we know it sounds audacious. It is. But we’re doing it—by creating civic experiences that reduce polarization, teaching essential civic skills, and inviting Americans to use their differences to better solve common problems together.

    Where we work:

    • Higher Education (Civic Gym): The Civic Gym allows college students to engage in meaningful cross-partisan conversations. Think of it as training for democracy—reps, sweat, and all. We partner with colleges and universities across the country to pair students for productive, skill-building dialogue across differences. So far, over 40,000 college students have paired up with strangers across the country to solve the country's most pressing issues.
    • Cities (Democracy Leagues): We partner with communities to run Civic Assemblies, where residents—across the ideological spectrum—solve shared problems together. Our first pilot is thriving in Akron, OH. We’re consulting with the City of Dayton, and we’ll likely will add another Ohio location by the end of the year.

    About the Role

The Marketing Manager role will help support the entire Marketing function, from top-of-funnel lead generation and content creation work to supporting retention and customer account growth. Alongside the Director of Marketing, this role will own a variety of digital marketing work, including blog and whitepaper creation, email marketing, webinar support, conference and press strategy, and more. We are looking for a Marketing generalist who is excited to wear a lot of hats, learn a lot, and help build a department – you will be joining a 1-person Marketing team. Your work will directly influence the growth and future of the department and the organization.

This role will work closely with the entire organization, including our Partnerships team who is responsible for selling to new educators and campuses, as well as the Creative team and the organization’s President. This role will report to the Director of Marketing. We’re focused on building this program right, not optimizing for short-term numbers or goals.

This Marketing Manager is a generalist who is responsible for building and executing work across the Marketing funnel:

    • This role will support the growth of the Civic Gym program by executing, tracking, and scaling our organic digital marketing work to help more college educators and campuses adopt the program, alongside the Director of Marketing.
    • A large portion of this role will focus on creating different Marketing content to meet educators and administrators where they’re at, including: gated content and blogs to bring in new leads, creating resources and content to help our current customers grow their usage on campuses, supporting our partnerships team with conference materials and webinar support, and email marketing strategy and creation.
    • This role is about realistic creativity – we want someone to help us build a scalable, reliable Marketing program that extends across multiple marketing channels, including top of funnel and retention. As a nonprofit, we are often working on lean budgets and short timeframes, so a scrappy, flexible approach will be key
    • We are currently focused on organic and relationship-driven channels, though the right candidate will be open to exploring new channels as the program evolves.
    • The ideal candidate is a Marketing generalist who thrives in creative, scalable thinking and tactical execution, and thrives in a small, startup environment. They will be the second Marketing hire – they should be excited by the flexibility to define the scope of their role and to hone many different skills.

    Qualifications

    • 4+ years experience in a Growth or Content Marketing function with broad experience in other areas of Marketing
    • Impeccable copywriting and copyediting abilities
    • Experience with Hubspot or another email automation platform
    • Proven ability to launch and scale digital marketing campaigns and channels
    • Comfort with campaign analytics, including monitoring KPIs and managing tracking for each campaign channel
    • Excellent organizational and time-management skills; able to thrive in smaller, fast-paced organizations.
    • Experience marketing in higher education a huge plus
    • Familiarity with Canva or other design software a plus

    What else you bring

    • You are a strategic partner who is excited to jump in and help build a marketing engine – we will be a mighty team of 2
    • You are proactive at identifying opportunities and executing – without being asked
    • You have meticulous attention to detail and are always looking to make your campaigns 1% better
    • You thrive in ambiguity – you're comfortable turning ideas into campaigns and owning every part of the process without templates or previous examples
    • You know how to prioritize work, identify bottlenecks and tension points, and proactively identify issues – this role covers a wide range of tasks and being able to identify the most important things will be key
    • You love collaboration, but you’re also comfortable working independently
    • You believe in the importance of civil discourse and civic participation

    Benefits

    • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
    • 401k match up to 5%.
    • Internet and phone reimbursement.
    • A healthy, appreciative, feedback-driven workplace.
    • Flexible, self-managed PTO.
