    Description

Chicago Gig Alliance is a project of The People's Lobby. The “north star” of Chicago Gig Alliance is safety, fair pay, and collective bargaining rights for all workers. We are working with the City of Chicago to support drivers fighting unfair deactivations and provide "Know Your Rights" training for all Chicago Public Chauffeurs, including Uber, Lyft, taxi, livery drivers, and pedicab operators.

The PM/Organizer would hold twice monthly trainings giving workers important information about the rights available to them and where to find support.

The PM/Organizer would also be responsible for building a base of driver volunteers to recruit workers to attend the meetings.

This position is currently budgeted through the end of 2026. The People's Lobby is an at-will employer.

    Driver Resource Center Program Details:

    • Conduct two trainings per month (one virtual and one in-person), training 1000 public chauffeurs monthly, primarily rideshare drivers, on their rights and protections
    • Make referrals to agencies and organizations that can help drivers exercise and enforce their rights and fight unfair deactivations
    • Build a base of driver volunteers to conduct outreach and training through discreet tactics like airport canvassing, phone and text banking
    • Cultural and language specific training on any available services and programs

    Responsibilities:

    • Outreach to all public chauffeurs to notify them about our semi-monthly trainings
    • Conducting semi-monthly trainings on the rights and resources available to public chauffeurs, and how to invoke or access them
    • Supporting workers who come to us for assistance
    • Build a team of worker volunteers to help drive turnout to the meetings and build a base of workers who share our values
    • Identifying trends and elevating issues faced by Public Chauffers
    • Tracking new legislation and updating drivers on newly acquired rights and protections
    • Tracking and reporting all work completed as required by the City of Chicago

    Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated success in relational organizing and in working with people from diverse race, class and gender identities.
    • Demonstrated success using a combination of tactics (canvassing, community meetings, social media or other) to bring new people to an event.
    • Experience in executing a training program or other similar meeting series for a diverse group of people.
    • Fluency in Spanish is highly preferred, but not required.

    Qualities Sought:

    • Angry about injustice in the world and committed to effectiveness.
    • Willingness to work within The People’s Lobby’s organizing methodology, including a focus on self-interest, negotiation, and agitation.
    • Enjoy working with people and capable of negotiating clearly with members, coworkers, and the supervisor about how we do the work.
    • Willingness to take risks and do things outside of personal comfort zone.
    • Attentive to details, which is often the difference between an average organizer and a highly effective one. Examples include keeping a busy calendar and the ability (or willingness to learn) how to think through the steps of managing meetings or events involving groups (sometimes large groups) of people.
    • The ability to take multiple perspectives, even at times seemingly competing perspectives, and see what might be true (partial truths) in each of them.
    • Kind, but direct. Able to give and receive feedback.

    Benefits

100% employer-paid health and dental plans, technology and transportation stipends, and 5% retirement contribution. The People’s Lobby offers generous paid time off, including 10 sick days per year and 10 days of paid time off for the first year of employment. The following holidays are observed by the organization: New Year's Day, Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Indigenous People's Day, and Thanksgiving Day and the following Friday. In addition to the holidays officially observed by the organization, permanent, regular employees are entitled to five (5) paid floating holidays, to be used for the observance of other civic holidays, religious holidays, or other days of personal significance. Additionally, offices will be closed for the last ten business days of each year.

    Level of Language Proficiency
