    Description

    About Eagle Island

Eagle Island is a magical place — a historic Adirondack island camp that has been inspiring girls and young women for nearly a century. Our campers build confidence, community, and independence through classic camp adventures: sailing, hiking, swimming, singing, and exploring the natural world. We’re joyful, hands-on, and loud in the best way — a community built on belonging, friendship, and trying new things.

We’re a nonprofit camp serving girls+ during overnight sessions and all genders during our one week of day camp.

    What You’ll Do

As the Camper Wellbeing Director, you’ll help create a camp environment where every camper feels safe, included, and free to be herself. You’ll work closely with counselors, specialists, and leadership staff to support campers’ emotional and social well-being, ensuring each child has a positive, growth-oriented camp experience.

This is a new and essential role on our leadership team — one that will help set the tone for staff culture, camper support, and our shared commitment to inclusion.

    Your work may include:

    • Checking in daily with counselors to identify campers who may need extra encouragement or individualized attention.
    • Reviewing Camper Health Forms prior the camper’s session at Eagle Island
    • Supporting campers during activities, transitions, or quiet moments when emotions or social dynamics need care.
    • Coaching staff on practical strategies for managing group dynamics, building camper confidence, addressing homesickness, and fostering inclusion.
    • Collaborating with leadership to ensure programming aligns with Eagle Island’s mission, values, and commitment to equity.
    • Partnering with the Camp Director and Health Center team when additional support or communication with families is needed.
    • Modeling calm, empathy, and good humor — helping campers and staff stay grounded, connected, and capable.

    Who You Are

    • You bring warmth, patience, enthusiasm, and sound judgment.
    • You’ve worked with children in group settings (camp, school, or otherwise) and understand that each child’s social-emotional needs are unique — and that focusing on inclusion benefits the whole community.
    • You’re collaborative and communicative — someone others turn to for perspective and support.
    • You stay steady under pressure and make clear, compassionate decisions.
    • You believe deeply in the power of camp to change lives.
    • You’re comfortable spending the summer in a cabin, platform tent, or rustic building — and see that as part of the adventure.

    The Details

    • Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; advanced training in youth development, counseling, social work, or related fields preferred but not required.

    • Schedule: Live on-site all summer; one day off each week.
