    Daya empowers survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault through culturally specific, traumainformed services and educates the community to help end the cycle of abuse.

    Core Job Description: The Client Advocate supports survivors of domestic and sexual violence by providing emotional support, crisis intervention, safety planning, advocacy, and culturally responsive case management services. Using trauma-informed and survivor-centered approaches, the Client Advocate partners with clients to identify needs, navigate systems and access resources.

    Client Advocates assist survivors with needs related to legal systems, housing, employment, childcare/parenting, healthcare, public benefits, and other social services. Services are provided through a culturally specific lens that recognizes the impact of language, culture, status, and systemic barriers on survivors’ experiences.

    This role regularly involves supporting survivors navigating crisis situations, trauma-related emotional distress, mental health concerns, elevated safety risks, and other complex barriers impacting survivor safety and stability. The position requires strong emotional resilience, professionalism, sound judgment, appropriate boundaries, and consistent use of trauma-informed and survivor-centered practices.

    DIRECT CLIENT SERVICES:

    • Answer helpline calls, complete intake and assess needs for appropriate intervention and referrals
    • Initially and on an ongoing basis, assess safety risks and urgent needs, provide crisis intervention and emotional support, and respond appropriately to survivors experiencing trauma-related mental health and safety concerns
    • Provide compassionate and ongoing emotional support to survivors
    • Provide appropriate referrals and assess eligibility for internal programs for legal, housing, employment, public assistance, and other case management needs
    • Accompany clients to appointments as needed for safety and support
    • Provide frequent and timely follow up to ensure clients are supported
    • Maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive client information in accordance with agency policies and applicable laws

    ADMINISTRATION & TEAMWORK:

    • Track calls, maintain accurate client records, and complete timely, thorough, and compliant documentation of services provided
    • Build and maintain a network of mainstream and South Asian professional resources
    • Accurately complete administrative duties
    • Undergo professional development to ensure best practices
    • Promote atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration to accomplish all Daya initiatives with colleagues, community partners, and volunteers
    • Contribute to staff meetings to collaboratively address challenges and develop creative and culturally responsive approaches

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field strongly preferred
    • Experience working with survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault within a nonprofit or community-based setting strongly preferred
    • Bilingual proficiency in English and a South Asian language (Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Farsi, Dari), with experience working in South Asian communities, strongly preferred. Nonjudgmental and respectful approach toward diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and lived experiences.
    • Ability to work effectively in emotionally intensive, high-stress environments while supporting survivors experiencing trauma, crisis situations, emotional distress, mental health concerns, elevated safety risks, and other complex barriers, while maintaining professional boundaries, sound judgment, and trauma-informed practices
    • Strong interpersonal, active listening, and trauma-informed communication skills
    • Commitment to Daya’s mission, values, and survivor-centered approach
    • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, documentation, follow-up, and deadlines
    • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team environment
    • Resourceful and proactive in researching referrals, resources, and client support options
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, online systems, and client database/documentation software
    • Must demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and clear written and verbal communication skills
    • During the first ninety (90) days, this position will be fully in-office. Following the probationary period, limited hybrid flexibility may be considered based on organizational, programmatic, and supervisory needs.

    COMPENSATION:

    • Salary – $50,000 annually
