    Common Art Program Manager (part time)

    Position Summary

    The Common Art Program Manager cultivates a vibrant, creative, and welcoming arts community for unhoused and newly housed people. Grounded in the belief that creativity is an essential part of being human, and that art is a vital source of personal and communal transformation, this role coordinates and facilitates arts programming, nurtures relationships, and supports community leadership.

    Common Art is a core program of common cathedral, a Boston-based, ecumenical faith community dedicated to working with, for and through people experiencing homelessness in Boston.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Programming

    The Program Manager is responsible for ensuring that organizational structures, materials, and all other aspects of Common Art run holistically, sustainably and generously.

    • Prepare and facilitate all arts-related programming during Common Art (every Wednesday, 8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.).
    • Lead and coordinate arts activities that are accessible and engaging.
    • Work with common artists to explore, develop and share their gifts.
    • Recruit and support volunteers and teaching artists.
    • Foster an environment where experimentation, creativity, learning, and relationship-building can flourish.

    Partnership and Community Building

    • Develop and maintain relationships with local faith communities, colleges, and arts organizations.
    • Create opportunities for broader collaboration across the City of Boston.
    • Organize art exhibitions throughout the year.

    Program Administration and Organization

    • Order and maintain art supplies and materials.
    • Organize artwork and program materials.
    • Set up and break down weekly art studio.
    • Manage annual program budget.
    • Attend weekly staff meetings.

    Qualifications and Characteristics

    • Passion for community-based arts programming and creative engagement.
    • Experience facilitating arts activities, workshops, or community programs.
    • Strong relationship-building and partnership-development skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
    • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
    • Flexibility, creativity, and a commitment to participant-centered programming.
    • Appreciation for the role of art in fostering community, dignity, healing, and transformation.
    • Belief that art is not a luxury!

    Structure

    • Part-Time: 10-15 hours a week
    • Schedule: In person every Wednesday 8:00am - 3:00pm, otherwise remote w/flexible hours
    • Compensation: $28.00hr.
