    Description

Position Summary: YWCA Brooklyn currently seeks to hire a Part-Time Social Worker (MSW) to provide onsite supportive programming for its 300 residents, most of whom have been impacted by gender-based violence, homelessness and poverty, and who currently live in our safe, permanent affordable housing. This position is responsible for offering trauma-informed nonclinical support services and resources to help residents live independent, self-determined lives. The vast majority of our residents have significant mental health challenges, are survivors of gender-based violence and have experienced complex trauma throughout their lives, which makes this position vital to their ability to live independently and remain stably housed.

We are looking for candidates who are available to work 20 hours per week during YWCA Brooklyn business hours (Mondays-Fridays, 8am-7pm). One fixed evening per week is required; the remainder of the hours are flexible, preferably split between 3 to 4 fixed weekdays, based on program needs.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide trauma-informed support services for residents who are survivors of violence.
    • Facilitate groups and workshops that promote wellness, healing, self-confidence, stress management and positive relationship building.
    • Provide crisis intervention, assessment, short-term therapeutic support, referrals and follow up.
    • Liaise with community-based resources to ensure residents are receiving the appropriate services. When necessary, advocate on behalf of residents with outside services and agencies.
    • Collaborate with Resident Services Program staff to identify residents in need of additional support.
    • Partner with Case Managers and Independent Living Advocates to maximize impact.
    • Maintain CRM database with accurate, up-to-date information.
    • Complete administrative work and meet all stated deadlines.
    • Ensure compliance and confidentiality for all resident information.
    • Perform other duties, as assigned.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Master’s degree in social work
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with similar populations
    • Experience providing individual and group supportive services to trauma survivors
    • Demonstrated knowledge of trauma-informed principles and a strengths-based approach
    • Experience working with diverse communities and alignment with the organization’s mission
    • Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of multidisciplinary team
    • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
    • Excellent organization, time management, and exceptional follow-up skills
    • Technologically proficient, especially with Microsoft 365
    • Literacy with CRM systems, Apricot preferred
    • Self-starter who can work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
    • Results oriented; committed to seeing tasks through to completion
    • Bilingual in Spanish preferred, but not required
