    Description

    The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for an Accountant who will focus on accounts receivable management, which includes, but is not limited to, performing reconciliations, applying payments received, processing credit cards, managing collections, and generating monthly aging reports with reserve calculations. Additionally, this role will create and post month-end journal entries, research and resolve all discrepancies (e.g., bank statements, income statements, balance sheets, grants), and upload travel and entertainment expenses.

    The Accountant supports the Manager of Investments, Fixed Assets and Donor Accounting with uploading monthly investment journal entries and fixed asset tasks. The role will also implement the use of business intelligence systems to ensure process optimization.

    The ideal candidate will develop a highly customer service focused environment with an anticipatory, participative, cooperative operating style.

    Responsibilities:

    Prepares account reconciliations, clears all outstanding items from reconciling schedules, including all receivable related accounts to MoMA and associated suspense, allowance, clearance, and discount accounts.

    Applies payments to underlying customer records including cash, wires, and checks utilizing account payment applications.

    Processes credit card transactions from all revenue channels on an as needed basis.

    Coordinates the bill collection process, including initiating and monitoring the process of collecting for accounts extremely overdue by notifying the billing department and assisting during the collection period, including follow-up and reporting.

    Prepares accounts receivable monthly aging analysis and distributes aging report on the fifth business day, ensuring accurate calculations to support appropriate AR reserve recording in compliance with accounting policies.

    Monitors and responds to accounts receivable help desk tickets from Museum departments and reports and tracks different requests such as write offs, matching, wire/ACH transfer payments, etc. Completes requests in a timely manner and closes tickets to avoid escalation.

    Calculates and maintains all receivables to the Museum, including lease tenants and auxiliary revenue streams (e.g., restaurant relationship).

    Creates month end prepaid and cash journal entries.

    Reconciles income statement and balance sheet general ledger accounts as required and assists with variance analysis.

    Reconciles bank account statement/activity to corresponding general ledger cash accounts, including researching and resolving all discrepancies.

    Monitors and reconciles internal staff grants to ensure accurate general ledger coding and timely settlement of outstanding balances in accordance with organizational policies and controls.

    Assists with external and internal audit requests, including but not limited to preparation of year-end audit schedules and analysis, updating narratives, generating schedules and running reports per auditor’s requests, etc.

    Supports the development and implementation of new or revised accounting systems, programs, and procedures, including participation in system release testing, upgrades, and process improvement initiatives.

    Utilizes AI platforms to expedite the month end close process and automate processes.

    Prepare monthly journal entries for Travel & Entertainment (T&E) expenses, including employee reimbursements and corporate credit card transactions.

    Performs necessary general ledger account reclassifications to correct miscoded expenses, including reallocation between funds, departments, programs, projects, and expense categories.

    Collaborates on a project team to perform parallel testing and ensure deliverables are completed on time.

    Assists with the accurate recording and uploading of investment-related transactions, including sales, disposals, and gains and losses, in accordance with applicable accounting standards and internal controls.

    Assists with monthly reconciliation of all investments, debt, and pledge accounts and prepares corresponding roll forward schedules.

    Assists with calculations and applies depreciation to fixed assets, maintains fixed asset roll forward schedules, and monitors and analyzes work-in-progress capital projects.

    Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions of this role and participates in special projects or initiatives as assigned by management.

    Requirements:

    Bacjelor’s degree in accounting and minimum of three to five years accounting experience, preferably in a museum or not-for-profit environment.

    Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting and accounts receivable policies/procedures.

    Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

    Excellent interpersonal skills.

    Self-starter and strong detail orientation with highly organized work habits.

    Experience and proficiency in Certinia (Accounting System) a plus.

    Proficient in Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and etc.), Word, and PowerPoint.

    Proven ability to work efficiently and juggle multiple priorities simultaneously with sound judgement in a fast-paced accounting environment.

    On-site presence is required four days per week, subject to change at management's discretion.

    This position is in scope of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI) DSS), therefore, any offer of employment for this position will be contingent on the satisfactory completion of a criminal background check. The background check will be performed by an outside vendor in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and city statutes.

    Salary range: Minimum of $87,002 to a maximum of $92,000 per annum
