    Description

    Development & Donor Outreach Coordinator

    About Mercado Global

Mercado Global is a nonprofit organization that connects sustainable and ethical fashion with the financial independence of rural women artisan entrepreneurs. Through partnerships with brands including Levi Strauss, Stitch Fix, Stuart Weitzman, Nordstrom, and Bloomingdale's, we help Indigenous women artisans in Latin America earn critical income, keep their children in school, and take on leadership roles in their communities. Since our founding, we have generated nearly $10 million in sales for artisan partners and supported more than 2,000 women entrepreneurs.

    Why We Are Hiring

Our donor community is growing — and so is our ambition. We are building deeper roots in key markets, including the Bay Area, and need a driven, people-first fundraiser to help us cultivate and grow those relationships.

This role exists for someone who knows how to open doors, build trust, and move donors through a pipeline with warmth and intention. You will work closely with our Senior Development Manager and Executive Director to manage a portfolio of donors, lead outreach efforts, and help bring new supporters into Mercado Global's mission. This is not a behind-the-scenes role — it is front-facing, relationship-driven, and impact-focused.

    Position Overview

The Development & Donor Outreach Specialist is a relationship-first fundraising role focused on donor cultivation, outreach, and portfolio management. You will be responsible for engaging existing donors, identifying and cultivating new prospects, and supporting corporate partnership outreach — all while maintaining clear communication and organized follow-through.

Location: Remote — Guatemala or Mexico preferred, but will consider other locations in Latin America

    Type: Full-Time

    Who You Are

You are a natural connector — someone who communicates with confidence, follows through with care, and understands that fundraising is ultimately about relationships. You are not intimidated by cold outreach, and you know how to move a conversation forward without being pushy. You are comfortable working independently, managing your own pipeline, and reporting back to a team that trusts you to own your work.

You are also tech-savvy and forward-thinking. You embrace AI tools to work smarter, write compelling and personalized communications, and stay organized across multiple relationships and priorities simultaneously. You understand that in today's fundraising landscape, efficiency and personalization are not opposites — they go hand in hand.

    Key Responsibilities

    Donor Relationship Management & Support

    • Manage a portfolio of mid-level donors with a focus on the Bay Area market
    • Support Senior Manager and Executive Director on working with donors — updating pipelines and ensuring consistent, thoughtful follow-up
    • Draft high-quality donor communications including emails, letters, donor reports, and meeting debriefs as needed
    • Support Senior Manager on managing host committee relationships and honoree coordination

    Donor Committee Support

    • Support managing the Impact Council (Mercado Global’s Junior Board)
    • Support packet preparation for Board Committees and Host Committees as needed

    Auction & Event Support

    • Manage auction item recruitment for the our annual Galas
    • Support gala and event logistics as needed

    CRM & Reporting

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records in Salesforce (or equivalent CRM)
    • Track outreach activity, pipeline progress, and donor engagement across your portfolio
    • Surface insights and flag opportunities to the Senior Development Manager
    • Leverage AI tools to enhance efficiency and personalization across communications and workflow

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Demonstrated experience in donor stewardship — strong communication skills, relationship management, and a solid understanding of fundraising
    • Proven track record of raising funds or supporting donor portfolios
    • Exceptional written communication skills — confident drafting donor-facing emails, letters, and reports
    • Comfort and proficiency with AI tools (Gemini, Claude, or similar) to optimize workflow and communications
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
    • Self-starter with strong initiative — you take ownership without being asked
    • Passion for Mercado Global’s mission and commitment to gender equity and economic empowerment
    • Fluency in English required; Spanish strongly preferred

    Preferred

    • Familiarity with Salesforce or a similar CRM
    • Background in nonprofit development, major gifts, or individual giving
    • Experience supporting committees, events, or donor-facing logistics
    • Based in Latin America, with a preference of Guatemala

    What We Offer

    • The opportunity to join a mission-driven team making a lasting difference in the lives of women artisans across Latin America
    • A close-knit, collaborative, and high-trust work environment where your contributions are visible and valued
    • Competitive nonprofit salary commensurate with experience
    • Fully remote with flexibility
    • Room to grow — this role has a clear path toward expanded portfolio responsibility and development leadership
