    Description

Development and Community Engagement Associate - Part Time

The Gender Equality Law Center is a not-for-profit law firm based in Brooklyn, New York. We provide direct services to individuals seeking to remedy gender-based discrimination and stereotyping as it adversely limits their ability to obtain and maintain economic equality and to fairly access a wide variety of social and civil benefits. GELC believes that every person deserves to be able to work, go to school, find shelter and obtain health care without being discriminated against on the basis of their sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or gender expression.

While GELC’s cases are on behalf of individuals (or groups of individuals). the organization litigation goals include obtaining systemic change through each and every lawsuit or administrative complaint we file. GELC’s three focus areas are: (1) pregnancy and caregiver discrimination; (2) sexual harassment and violence prevention; and (3) LGBTQ + rights. Because gender-based discrimination rarely happens in a silo, almost all of GELC’s cases involve the intersection of gender with other forms of bias, including but not limited to race, national origin, immigration status and disability. GELC strongly believes in access to justice. For this reason, the majority of our clients low-income individuals who would not otherwise be able to afford to obtain counsel.
