Immigrant Rights and Worker Justice Organizer

    Escucha Mi Voz Iowa

Johnson County / Linn County, Iowa

    Position Summary

Escucha Mi Voz Iowa is seeking a passionate, bilingual Community Organizer to build the leadership, membership, and collective power of immigrant workers and families.

The organizer will focus on member recruitment, leadership development, rapid response and community defense, and campaigns addressing deportation, workplace injustice, and housing. This is a hands-on organizing position for someone who takes initiative, builds strong relationships, develops others into leaders, and knows how to move people from concern to action.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Recruit immigrant workers and community members into Escucha Mi Voz membership
    • Conduct one-on-one organizing conversations and identify and develop new leaders
    • Organize Neighborhood Response Teams and rapid response efforts
    • Support Know Your Rights trainings, legal observer trainings, protective accompaniment, and public actions
    • Help members identify and organize around issues including wage theft, housing injustice, and deportation threats
    • Plan and execute membership meetings, leadership trainings, campaigns, and actions
    • Build relationships with faith leaders, community organizations, unions, and other partners
    • Maintain consistent communication and follow-up with members, leaders, and volunteers
    • Help members take ownership of campaigns and grow into strong community leaders

    Qualifications

    • Strong commitment to immigrant rights, worker justice, affordable housing, and grassroots organizing
    • Bilingual Spanish/English required
    • Strong relationship-building, communication, and facilitation skills
    • Highly motivated self-starter who can take initiative and move campaigns and projects forward with limited supervision
    • Willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including regular evenings and weekends
    • Collaborative, dependable, and solutions-oriented
    • Open to regular feedback, coaching, and constructive criticism
    • Comfortable with direct action, conflict, and strategic confrontation when necessary
    • Understands that an organizer’s role is to develop people’s leadership and collective power—not simply provide services or solve problems for them
    • Experience in community organizing, worker organizing, advocacy, or grassroots leadership preferred
    • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and legal authorization to work in the United States required.

    Compensation

Salary commensurate with experience. Benefits available.
