The Director of Summer Residential Programs & Enrichment is the primary, strategic leader to oversee and design, plan, implement, and direct the overall successful operation of the Camp Dogwood Summer Academy. The camp leadership role requires that one brings high energy and an ability to multi-task competing efforts and assignments. The Director creates and executes a vision for the camp,including year-round programming to support youth leadership, staff development and recruitment. The Director also manages environmental and experiential initiatives and education programs and projects. This includes creating programs, projects and education materials which may include art, music, building technology skills, career awareness and preparation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Strategy
- Design, deliver and strengthen the camp program that meets the needs and interests of the camp populations and ensures their delivery in a safe and quality manner.
- Establish clear priorities for the team. Ensure that teammates have annual goals, objectives, work plans, and projections consistent with overall organizational goals.
- Work collaboratively with the AnBryce leadership team, and share camp operational responsibility with the Assistant Director, and report to the President to oversee the implementation camp efforts.
- Provide direction, oversight, and support to camp staffers.
- Ensure day to day operations are smoothly and efficiently administered.
Program Implementation, Fiscal Management, and Board Relations
- Provide timely progress reports and annual reports in a multi-tasking manner to the leadership team, board directors, council members, and others.
- Remain current with information on the developmental needs of youth.
- Develop the annual budget with the President and monitor the ongoing fiscal performance of Camp Dogwood with the objective of meeting or exceeding budgeted targets.
- Actively engage camp volunteers, alumni, and partnering organizations.
People Management
- Develop and maintain staffing strategies and organizational structure to efficiently achieve Camp Dogwood’s strategic and operational goals and objectives.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, appreciation, teamwork, high energy, and empowerment; set and advance a positive and cohesive culture within the foundation rooted in and inspired by the founders’ values.
- Build and sustain relationships with existing and potential partners, stakeholders, and community leaders to ensure and enhance Camp Dogwood’s success.
- Collaborate with the President to oversee administration of board materials involving camp.
- Lead, mentor, develop, and guide camp staff.
- Ensure appropriate personnel policies and procedures are in place and are effectively communicated and administered.
- Ensure compliance with all legal regulatory requirements involved with hiring and termination procedures.
Operations & Safety
- Ensure safe and smooth operation of all aspects of summer programs including food service and health center.
- Administer annual compliance with the policies and standards of local, state, and federal laws, and the best practices of the American Camp Association (ACA).
- In consultation with the Property Manager, serve as a steward to ensure camp property and facilities are properly maintained and identifying and reporting future needs.
Marketing, Communications, and Community Relations
- Design and implement marketing strategies to prospective campers and their families and returning camp families.
- Prepare and analyze enrollment trends that inform recruitment and retention strategies.
- Ensure the development of clear, consistent, and effective marketing of Camp Dogwood to key audiences (i.e., parents, campers, staff, alumni, and community leaders).
- Serve as an ambassador for the organization, articulating the mission, purpose, goals, and values of the AnBryce Foundation and Camp Dogwood.
- Establish appropriate partnerships that support programs and recruitment
Work Location:
- Summer - This position must be in residence at Camp Dogwood throughout the entirety of the summer season, June – August.
- Off-Season - Staff work on-site in its Washington, DC office
Hiring Timeline (subject to change):
- October 5-30: Applications Accepted; Phone screens (Reviewed on a rolling-basis)
- October 26 - November 13: First (virtual), Second (virtual) and Final (in-person) Interviews
- November 16-20: Visit to camp; Offer
- December 7: Start Date
To ensure a safe and supportive experience for all participants, we are not equipped to support participants who require one-on-one supervision, specialized medical assistance or are disruptive during our programs.
Benefits
- The annual salary is commensurate with experience. The upper end of the salary range will be reserved for candidates with substantial experience with operational excellence in managing outdoor residential camps.
