    Position Summary

The Supervising Social Worker plays a vital role in supporting justice-impacted parents as they navigate the complex and often challenging process of reunifying with their children. The Supervising Social Worker will provide direct services—including counseling, court accompaniment, and coordination with legal and child welfare systems—to help stabilize families and facilitate successful reunification.

In addition to direct client support, the Supervising Social Worker will supervise the Case Manager/Visitation Manager, ensuring consistent, high-quality service delivery across the department. This role demands a strong foundation in trauma-informed care, a deep understanding of systems-involved families, and a firm commitment to social and racial justice. Reporting to the Managing Attorney, the Supervising Social Worker collaborates closely with a multidisciplinary team dedicated to empowering families impacted by incarceration.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide direct support to clients around family preservation and reunification.
    • Conduct needs assessments, coordinate service referrals, and support case plan compliance.
    • Accompany clients to Dependency and Criminal Court hearings; provide in-court testimony as needed.
    • Facilitate and document parent-child visitation in coordination with DCFS and legal teams.
    • Supervise the Case Manager/Visitation Manager, including oversight of client engagement, visitation monitoring, and documentation.
    • Maintain client caseloads, track progress, and ensure proper documentation and follow-up.
    • Facilitate communication between clients, DCFS workers, attorneys, and caregivers.
    • Educate and empower clients to understand reunification law, policy, and court procedures.

    Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in Social Work (required); LCSW preferred
    • Licensed or registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences
    • Supervisory experience preferred, especially in nonprofit or justice-centered environments
    • Strong knowledge of child welfare systems, Dependency Court, and family reunification law
    • Trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and justice-oriented approach
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with diverse, system-impacted populations

    • Willingness to obtain certification in professional visitation monitoring
