    The Position

    The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) is seeking a Policy & Legislative Affairs Data Analyst to support the association’s advocacy, policy, and member service efforts. This position plays a key role in advancing NAHRO’s mission by providing data analysis, research, and administrative support to the Department of Policy & Legislative Affairs.

    The Data Analyst will collect, analyze, and interpret data related to federal housing and community development programs to inform NAHRO’s policy positions, advocacy initiatives, and member resources. The Analyst will develop reports, respond to member data requests, and support the department’s efforts to promote robust federal funding, preserve affordable housing programs, and foster a regulatory environment that enables housing agencies and community development organizations to serve their communities effectively.

    This position also works directly with NAHRO members, helping them prepare for meetings with elected officials, understand policy and programmatic issues, and access data that supports their day-to-day operations and advocacy efforts. This position would also work closely with NAHRO’s leadership committees. Through data-driven analysis and strategic support, the Data Analyst will contribute to strengthening NAHRO’s reputation as a trusted source of information and an effective advocate for affordable housing and community development.

    Responsibilities

    • Conduct research and analyze data related to federal housing and community development programs.
    • Manage Tableau Data Dashboards.
    • Develop reports, data products, presentations, and other materials to support policy development, advocacy campaigns, and member services.
    • Respond to member requests for data, research, and program information.
    • Maintain and analyze datasets to identify trends, measure program impacts, and support organizational priorities.
    • Assist with the preparation of policy briefs, issue papers, legislative analyses, and advocacy materials.
    • Support NAHRO’s grassroots advocacy efforts by providing data and information for member outreach and engagement.
    • Help prepare members for meetings with Congress, federal agencies, and other policymakers by providing relevant research and supporting materials.
    • Provide administrative and project support to the Department of Policy & Legislative Affairs.
    • Collaborate with staff across the organization to ensure data and research support NAHRO’s strategic initiatives and member needs.
    • Monitor federal policy developments and assist in evaluating their impact on housing and community development programs.
    • Assist with NAHRO Leadership Committees.
    • Assist on data projects for the Local Housing Administrators Coalition (LHAC).
    • Other duties as assigned

    Required Qualifications

    • Experience with Tableau.
    • Experience with Microsoft 365 Suite
    • Proficiency in programming in data analysis including Excel, R, or other programs.
    • Understanding of database concepts and experience working with databases.
    • Careful attention to detail to ensure accuracy and reliability of findings.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds, and contribute to team goals.
    • Interest in federal affordable housing policy and programs such as the Public Housing, Section 8, and other community development programs.
    • Ability to analyze federal legislation and regulations.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Knowledge of federal policy and state legislative processes.
    • Qualitative and quantitative research and analytical skills.
    • Ability to work independently and stay up to date on relevant topics.
    • Ability to interact with NAHRO members and be able to weigh their perspectives with a national perspective.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field
