About Recovery Cafe San Jose
Recovery Cafe San Jose is a healing community of support and services for people recovering from addiction, homelessness, mental health challenges, and other kinds of life trauma. Our unique model of radical hospitality and loving accountability empowers stabilization, personal growth, and a renewed engagement with life.
Position Summary
The Finance and Operations Manager serves as the daily operational backbone of Recovery Cafe San Jose, helping ensure the organization runs smoothly, responsibly, and with care. Ideally this role oversees day-to-day facilities management, bookkeeping, payroll coordination, and core people operations, but the Finance and Ops responsibilities can also be split between two people, if need be. Please feel free to apply if you are a fit for one or both sides of this role.
Working closely with the Executive Director, the Finance & Operations Manager provides steady operational leadership and practical problem-solving across the organization. The ideal candidate is highly organized, emotionally grounded, and comfortable in a dynamic, mission-driven environment serving a very diverse community of people recovering from homelessness, addiction, incarceration, mental health challenges, and other kinds of life trauma.
This role is well-suited for an experienced professional who values meaningful work, takes ownership naturally, and wants to contribute to a compassionate and community-centered organization.
Bookkeeping & Payroll
Day-to-day bookkeeping in QuickBooks Online — accounts payable, bank reconciliations, and monthly financial reports.
Bi-weekly Payroll processing and compliance.
People Operations
HR essentials for our 10-20 person team: onboarding new hires, managing exits, maintaining employee records, and serving as the point of contact for HR documentation and staff questions.
Facilities & Operations
Primary liaison with our host church’s facilities manager for space needs, maintenance, and scheduling. You’ll manage preventive maintenance schedules for our kitchen and coffee bar equipment, and make sure the physical space reflects the care we put into everything else.
Operational Leadership
When the executive director is out, you’re the steady presence keeping things moving. You’ll have real authority to make day-to-day operational decisions.

- Comfortable coordinating vendors, tradespeople, and facilities partners independently — you don’t wait to be told when something needs fixing
- Sound judgment and a calm, grounded presence — this role requires someone others naturally trust
- Genuine alignment with Recovery Cafe San Jose’s mission; lived experience of recovery — your own or a loved one’s — is always welcome here
