    POSITION SUMMARY

    Lady Freethinker seeks a Public Relations & Communications Specialist to build and maintain brand and campaign awareness, devise innovative angles to promote content to media, and develop & execute a social media strategy for our nonprofit animal protection organization. This person will play a critical role in establishing and maintaining relationships with the media and online community by writing press releases and other media communications, and pitching investigations and campaign stories to media outlets. Additionally, this individual will review LFT campaigns & investigations, as well as general animal protection news stories and develop unique angles for pitches to media as well as ideas for compelling social media content. Ideal candidates will have experience procuring coverage from major news outlets, a proven history of social media analysis and strategy development, and exemplary written and verbal communication skills. They will know how to communicate well with the media and public, pay close attention to detail, be social media savvy, organize their time and tasks well, and demonstrate a commitment to animal welfare.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Public Relations & Media Engagement: Develops press releases and media communications; establishes & builds relationships with media partners; pitches stories to the press; responds to requests for information; finds & executes unique ways to promote the organization’s content to the media for successful distribution.
    • Social Media: Develops a strategy to grow the organization’s reach and engagement on its primary channels (Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram) by reviewing & maintaining analytics; manages the social media calendar through a tool like Social Pilot; collaborates with colleagues to create timely text, image, and video content; evolves the organization’s strategy and tone of voice to reach new audiences on platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
    • Social Listening: Identifies opportunities for the organization to participate in relevant news stories and online conversations by tracking trending topics and hashtags; responds to comments, questions, mentions, and direct messages in a timely manner.
    • Content Creation & Strategy: Identifies & proposes opportunities for op-eds, blog posts, or other content to further reach LFT’s audience. Liaises with staff in campaigns & investigations to plan & develop upcoming campaign releases.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Demonstrated experience writing press releases and other media content
    • Demonstrated experience successfully pitching to press sources and procuring widespread coverage of stories by major media outlets
    • Demonstrated experience strategically engaging audiences on different social media platforms through organic posts through careful analysis of data
    • Demonstrated experience dealing with inquiries in a professional, polite, and knowledgeable manner
    • Demonstrated experience developing high quality creative content (text, image, and video) that advances strategic goals
    • Proficiency with graphic design and video creation for social media
    • Solid computer skills, including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and communications tools
    • Flexible schedule and ability to work non-traditional hours as needed
    • Demonstrated commitment to advancing LFT’s values, mission, and goals, with an understanding of animal welfare advocacy

    HOURS & RATE

    Full-time position, 40 hours/week primarily during normal business hours Pacific time (some flexibility permitted)
