    POOL COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION

    Position Profile

    The Dr. Charles van der Horst Water Safety Initiative Dba Swim for Charlie (SFC) is seeking a mission-driven professional to coordinate the running of the program at the pool. Swim for Charlie’s youth-focused water safety program aims to provide the opportunity for every second grade North Carolina child to be safe in and around the water. The Pool Coordinator reports to the Program Director.

    The Pool Coordinator supports the setup and supervision of swim sessions, ensures safety protocols are followed, communicates with instructors, staff, and pool partners, and addresses student participant needs as they arise. This is a daily, short-shift position. It runs Monday – Friday for about 3 hours in the morning to ~1pm during the academic year (September through May). It is a paid position with an hourly rate commensurate with certifications and experience.

    Job responsibilities:

    • Be present at one of Swim for Charlie’s host pools on the days of the program.
    • Assess if all scheduled volunteer instructors are present.
    • Readjust student instructor pairings if a scheduled instructor does not show up or calls in the morning of the lessons to say he/she is unavailable. In this instance the Program Manager will be contacted to see if she can find someone to fill in.
    • Review the American Red Cross Whales Tales rule of the day with the students.
    • Based on need teach one of the groups of students or serve as a lifeguard at the pool.
    • Log student attendance with the assistance of the schoolteacher.
    • Hand out to and collect from the instructors the laminated Skills Check Off sheets.
    • Let the instructors know when 5 minutes remain in the lesson and when the lesson is over.
    • Fill out SFC incident report, if necessary. Contact the Program Manager for any incident that occurs during the program.
    • Refer questions from the pool staff or the school staff to the Program Manager.

    Required Qualifications

    • Passion for SFC mission
    • Extreme attention to detail

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Certified lifeguard
    • Certified Water Safety Instructor

    Level of Language Proficiency

    Proficient in English
