Backed by three decades of research and evaluation, our holistic, community-centered approach to nutrition security weaves together three core programming elements — access, affordability and education — as well as a focus on advocating for public policy solutions.

    The Food Trust is seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Grants Writer/Manager to play a key role in securing the funding that supports our mission of ensuring delicious, nutritious food for all. This position leads the development and management of grant proposals that support programs expanding healthy food access, nutrition education and affordability in communities across the country.

    In this role, you will work closely with program leaders, finance staff, and senior leadership to identify funding opportunities, develop compelling grant proposals, and support stewardship of relationships with foundation, corporate, and government funders. The Grants Writer/Manager will serve as the organization’s primary grant writer and will oversee the full lifecycle of grant activity, from prospect research and proposal development to reporting and tracking outcomes.

    This position is ideal for someone who enjoys translating impactful work into compelling narratives, managing complex timelines, and collaborating across teams to support mission-driven programs.

    What You’ll Do

    • Research and identify government, foundation, and corporate grant opportunities aligned with The Food Trust’s strategic priorities
    • Lead the development and submission of grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and concept papers
    • Coordinate with program and finance teams to gather information, data, and supporting materials for proposals
    • Maintain and manage a comprehensive grants calendar to track deadlines for proposals and reports
    • Draft and submit funder reports that communicate program outcomes and impact
    • Track grant awards, submissions, and reporting requirements to ensure compliance and timely follow-up
    • Manage post-award activities including funder acknowledgements and grant onboarding
    • Participate in grant planning meetings with leadership to align funding opportunities with program priorities
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with program staff, finance staff, and external funders

    What You Bring

    • 5+ years of experience in grant writing or grants management, with a demonstrated track record of successful grant proposals
    • Bachelor’s degree required
    • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to translate program work into compelling proposals
    • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines and complex funding cycles
    • Experience coordinating across departments to gather information and manage proposal development
    • High level of organization and attention to detail
    • A passion for working in fast paced environments with multiple competing priorities
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace

    Minimum Experience: 5+ years of demonstrated experience and a proven track record of success in grant writing. Must possess excellent written and oral skills, outstanding organizational skills and strong facilitation skills required. Demonstrated basic knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. Must be a self-starter, able to work Independently in a busy, deadline and detail-oriented environment. Must possess integrity and ethics beyond reproach and a passion for The Food Trust’s mission, vision and values.
