    ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:

    The Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada (PLAN) was founded in 1994 by Nevada activists to build a more fair and just Nevada. Since 1994, our organization has grown from 12 original founding member groups to a current membership of nearly 40 organizations. PLAN is recognized by the IRS as a not for profit 501c3 charitable organization. PLAN’s mission is to build a more fair and just Nevada that puts people and planet first. We organize with frontline communities and directly impacted leaders to advocate for policies and community investments that improve people’s lives.

    PLAN Action Fund was founded in 2012 as the political, 501c4, arm of PLAN. ​PLAN Action seeks to transform progressive ideas into action through rapid response communications, legislative action, grassroots organizing, organizing advocacy, electoral organizing, and partnerships with other progressive leaders and organizations in Nevada.     JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Support PLAN/PLAN Action basebuilding and issue-based organizing campaigns

    (Approx. 50% FTE)

    • Base Building: Work to build a base of community leaders who are ready to take action and build political power through our electoral campaign and issue-based organizing. The organizer will help provide training, resources, and community support to those interested in electing progressives, community organizing, and policy advocacy
    • Advocacy and Issue Campaign: Work closely with the Organizing Team and Campaign Coordinator to drive the organizing strategy on our key electoral and legislative priorities and issue-based campaigns
    • Educational and Community Outreach: Conduct voter education and mobilization events, political education workshops, and leadership development trainings, and lead community events and actions that raise awareness of our endorsed candidates and our issue-based campaigns and policy advocacy.
    • Community Engagement: Actively engage with community members and stakeholders, specifically those disproportionately marginalized, to gain an understanding of their concerns and self-interest to organize them into campaign roles
      • This will require and is not limited to, regular field hours for outreach, phonebanking, canvassing, and community event engagement
    • Mobilization and Action: Mobilize community members to take action through grassroots organizing, including but not limited to canvassing, petitioning, letter-writing campaigns, phonebanking, lobby meetings and rallies
    1. Communications

    (Approx. 20% FTE)

    • Identify leaders who can be trained to become spokespersons for key issue areas or policy advocacy
    • Support social media content, press releases, email blasts, and press conferences
    • Participate and recruit community leaders for traditional media needs (interviews)
    1. Represent PLAN Action/PLAN externally in organizing related relationships

    (Approx. 20% FTE)

    • Collaborate with values-aligned organizations such as PLAN’s member groups, progressive partners (local and national) and other coalition partners
    • Participate in meetings and networks to advance organizing, especially those that advance PLAN or PLAN Action’s long-term vision for a more fair and just Nevada that puts people and planet first
    1. Participate in PLAN team (10%)
    • Utilize PLAN and PLAN’s Actions platforms to ensure flow of information and completion of tasks, accuracy of records, reporting requirements are met, and usage of systems that support the operations of PLAN and PLAN Action. At this time that includes: NGP VAN, Google applications, Quickbooks T-Sheets, Asana, Zoom, Slack, and Signal
    • Maintain and manage personal and organization’s main calendar in coordination with project calendars to support the coordination of organization-wide operations.
    • Active and timely response on all communications (email, phone, messaging apps) during work hours
    • Attend and actively participate in regular meetings with staff, team, member groups, leaders, and allies.
    • Participate in and support preparation for monthly staff meetings, bimonthly member group meetings, annual member group retreats, and other events as necessary.
    • Compliance with PLAN/PLAN Action remote working policies and procedures (calendaring, availability online, response time to communications, receipts, etc.)

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    The ideal candidate will possess many, if not all, of the following qualifications:

    • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in voter contact and community organizing with established nonprofits, advocacy or political organizations, or related fields with an emphasis on economic, environmental, and immigrant justice
    • A strong commitment to racial equity and social justice with the ability to talk about identities such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, class, ability, or gender in plain, specific terms
    • Experienced and committed to base-building and leadership development of volunteers
    • Excitement for electing progressive candidates up and down the ballot.
    • Excellent communication skills, including public speaking, writing, and interpersonal communication that can engage diverse audiences
    • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
    • Proficiency or familiarity with organizer tools like but not limited to VAN, Asana, Google-based applications, Mobilize, and Slack
    • Ability to work independently and create a system to keep tasks from slipping through the cracks and meet deadlines on time
    • Able to juggle competing demands and prioritize without sacrificing the quality of work. This requires planning backward to make deadlines and asking for help when needed
    • Enthusiasm for meeting and engaging with people, especially those communities we work with directly, while ensuring it is done in a culturally competent manner
    • Willingness and aptitude to learn new technical and organizing skills
    • Written and verbal fluency in Spanish or other languages is a plus.

    Term of Employment:

    This is a full-time permanent position. Hybrid/remote work is possible but this role does require a majority of in-person community engagement and fieldwork.

    Benefits

    Compensation/Benefits:

    $58,000 annual salary (this salary is negotiable). PLAN Action provides robust health care benefits and time off including dental and vision; 18 state and federal paid holidays, two additional floating holidays; as well as generous paid time off, and gas mileage reimbursement.
