    Gleaning Program Assistant (Seasonal, Part-Time) Foodshed Alliance / LocalShare

    Location: Must Reside in either Sussex or Warren County (field-based)

    Schedule: July–December | Approximately 15 hours per week

    Compensation: $20/hour

    The Foodshed Alliance is seeking a Gleaning Program Assistant to support our LocalShare program, which rescues surplus produce from local farms and delivers it to food pantries, meal programs, community partners, and free produce markets throughout northwestern New Jersey.

    This is a hands-on, seasonal position for someone who enjoys physical work, interacting with volunteers, and helping reduce food waste while increasing access to fresh, healthy food.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead and supervise volunteers during gleaning events on local farms and at meeting locations.
    • Assist with harvesting, transporting, and distributing fresh produce to community partners and free produce markets.
    • Collect and report gleaning and distribution data.
    • Safely operate and maintain assigned program vehicles, including pickup trucks, cargo vans, and/or box trucks.
    • Represent the Foodshed Alliance professionally while working with farmers, volunteers, and community partners.

    Qualifications

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage records and schedules.
    • Comfortable using smartphones and spreadsheets for data collection.
    • Valid driver's license with a good driving record and reliable personal transportation.
    • Ability to drive pickup trucks, cargo vans, and/or box trucks.
    • Flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends.
    • Passion for local agriculture, food access, and the Foodshed Alliance mission. Physical

    equirements

    • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
    • Willingness to work outdoors in all New Jersey weather conditions, including hot summer days and cool, wet autumn weather.
    • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work on farms for extended periods.

    The Foodshed Alliance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening New Jersey's local food system. Through partnerships with family farms, volunteers, and community organizations, we help reduce food waste, increase access to fresh local food, support local agriculture, and build healthier communities.
