    Job Title: Site Safety Training (SST) Associate

    Classification: Salaried/full time

    Reports To: SST Manager

    ABOUT LA COLMENA: Founded in 2014, La Colmena has been empowering immigrant workers and their families through education, organizing, culture, and economic development. To this end, La Colmena continues to provide a space where workers learn and assert their rights, develop their leadership and become active members in their community.

    POSITION OVERVIEW: The SST Associate is responsible for providing comprehensive support to La Colmena’s Site Safety Training and Occupational Safety and Health programs.

    ESSENTIAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Working collaboratively with the Site Safety Training team, the SST Associate duties include:

    • Conduct outreach for SST and other Occupational Safety & Health classes
    • Provide support before, during and after training, including with on-line training software and scoring work submitted by students
    • Connect workers attending trainings with other valuable information and/or referrals
    • Maintain records of training attendance, including correspondence with members
    • Ensure that all intakes are followed up with in a timely manner
    • Answer phone calls during office hours and check voicemail when in office
    • Provide interpretations/translation, when required
    • Maintain effective communication strategies with external partners and other La Colmena staff to ensure accountability on member referrals

    Community Engagement

    • Represent La Colmena at meetings and events
    • Participate in activities that involve the education, organizing, advocacy, and celebration of the culture of the immigrant community.

    Other responsibilities (Required for all):

    • Acts as a good steward of La Colmena resources and reputation.
    • Knowledgeable and articulate in La Colmena.
    • Provide support for donor stewardship engagement.
    • Develop and maintain value-added quality year round relationships with key stakeholders (volunteers, members, donors and staff).
    • Realize a new approach or new partnership with the intent of enhancing our ability to achieve La Colmena goals.
    • Clock-in and clock-out regularly.
    • Other duties as appropriate.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High School diploma or High School Equivalency Exam - TASC
    • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
    • Bilingual Spanish/English
    • Ability to effectively communicate with members and staff
    • Knowledge of and commitment to issues of workers and immigrants’ rights
    • Knowledge of computer operations (including but not limited to, Google Apps, Microsoft Office, etc.), as well as copiers, fax machines, and phones

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds unless medically excused. Some travel will be required.
