    Description

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provide advanced psychiatric nursing care as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, under the supervision of a psychiatrist (if required due to state collaborative practice agreement guidelines).
    • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for adults and adolescents, including psychosocial, developmental, and trauma histories.
    • Diagnose mental health conditions using DSM-5 criteria and support the development of individualized, evidence-based treatment plans.
    • Provide crisis assessment, risk assessment, and intervention when clinically indicated.
    • Apply trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices when working with children, adolescents, and families.
    • Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications while assessing therapeutic response and side effects.
    • Manage Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) for substance use disorders in alignment with program and regulatory standards.
    • Provide psychoeducation to clients, parents, and guardians regarding diagnoses, treatment options, risks/benefits, and medication use, document informed consent.
    • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic and laboratory tests to identify clinical problems and monitor treatment safety.
    • Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation in the electronic health record, including visit notes, current medication regimen, lab reviews, and clinical updates, ensuring all evaluations and follow-up visits are documented within 48 hours of client contact and in compliance with NYS OMH, OASAS, and agency standards.
    • Participate in required weekly case conferences to provide clinical input and collaborate on treatment progress.
    • Coordinate care with counselors, nursing staff, primary care providers, pediatricians, and community providers.
    • Communicate with families, foster parents, and caregivers to ensure quality delivery of services.
    • Work closely with schools and child welfare agencies (foster care, CPS) to support involved families.
    • Refer clients to specialized health resources for treatment when necessary.
    • Stay informed on best practices in child and adolescent psychiatry and psychopharmacology

    Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

    • Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited advanced practice nursing program.
    • Current New York State License Nurse Practitioner-Psychiatry Certification
    • Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) via ANCC or AANP.
    • Active DEA registration and eligibility to prescribe controlled substances, including medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD).
    • Current NY State Medicaid/Medicare provider status.
    • Demonstrated experience working with children, adolescents, and adults, including children involved in child welfare systems (foster care, Child Protective Services).
    • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and the impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).
    • Excellent clinical decision-making, assessment, and communication skills.
    • Commitment to supporting vulnerable youth and families in a community mental health setting.
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred and welcome other languages to meet the needs of communities served.
    • Ability to assess in person on an established interval for comprehensive evaluations for clients prescribed controlled substances.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and community partners.
    • Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) required.

    The salary range for this role is between 160K-180K.
