    General Description

    The North Carolina League of Conservation Voters (NCLCV) is a pragmatic, results-oriented, non-partisan organization whose mission is to protect the health and quality of life for all North Carolinians, with an intentional focus on systematically excluded communities of color. We elect environmental champions, advocate for environmental policies that protect our communities, and hold elected leaders accountable for their decisions. We create a political environment that will protect our natural environment.

    NCLCV is seeking a proven candidate in communications and strategic engagement to support our Communications team in driving the organization’s digital advocacy with a focus on cultivating, organizing, and growing our membership base. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and creative online campaigner and communicator to expand awareness on environmental policies, civic engagement, and legislative accountability. In this public-facing digital presence position, the Digital Media manager is responsible for optimizing traditional and digital communications channels to contribute to organizational growth and membership acquisition. Additionally, this position works to establish NCLCV as a leader on the intersection of environmental policy and politics.

    Responsibilities

    Under the direction of the Communications Director, the Digital Media Manager will execute and organize coordinated and/or strategic communication campaigns to: 1) educate & build awareness on our issues, 2) influence decisionmakers, 3) inspire actions from our audiences, and 4) support fundraising efforts. Specific responsibilities include:

    Social Media Management

    • Execute short- and long-term social media campaigns to build and engage online audiences and inspire those audiences to engage positively on our issues.
    • Utilize tools (Adobe suite, Canva, CapCut, etc.) to edit videos and photos, develop graphics and other organizational needs, and other responsibilities as assigned.
    • Work with content creators, consultants, and partners to meet program, organization, and coalition goals.
    • Tracking and reporting through monitoring tools like Hootsuite.

    Customer Relationship Management

    • Utilize our customer relationship management system to grow and mobilize NCLCV’s membership as we build awareness on our issues, influence decisionmakers, and support fundraising efforts.
    • Organize, cultivate, engage, and report on programs’ and organizations’ audiences; as well as establish consistent, simple processes for all programs to follow when cultivating/engaging audiences through CRM
    • Maintain a healthy member database and provide staff with training to use systems effectively and successfully.
    • Coordinate with the Development team and offer support as needed to ensure a sustainable financial future for programs & organizations
    • Plan, update, and conduct creative email and texting campaigns to grow audience engagement and donations
    • Foster, maintain, and grow membership base through proven, viable paid and unpaid acquisition strategies.

    Website & Earned Media Management

    • Coordinate with website designers to maintain and regularly update websites to meet the needs and goals of various programs and campaigns
    • Maintain and update media lists, media hits, and media-monitoring tools (i.e. Meltwater).
    • Draft press releases, media statements, and other traditional media materials as needed for use in campaigns, fundraising, and other strategic communications.

    Organization & Partnerships Support

    • Coordinate with existing and new partnerships and coalitions to meet organization/coalition goals.
    • Generate and execute creative new ways to mobilize NCLCV’s membership to influence policymakers, and elect pro-environment candidates (i.e. annual Legislative Scorecard, local accountability campaigns).
    • Analyze and monitor the performance of all online engagement including; use data to evaluate annual goals and campaign progress and make adjustments; report out as necessary.
    • Participates actively in applying a racial justice lens to all NCLCV online communications with an increased emphasis on member education on issues, environmental or otherwise, where communities of color are disproportionately impacted.
    • Provide digital and communications copy and support to organizational events and programs as needed.
    • Engage board and committee members as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Requirements: We require 1) strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; 2) Excellent planning and organization skills; 3) demonstrated social media strategy; and 4) technical proficiency with video editing software, CRM management, website management, and other digital media management tools

    • Work experience: 2-3 years of demonstrable success in online organizing, email advocacy, and social media campaigns required. Experience in a political context, preferably in a progressive or environmental organization strongly preferred.
    • Skills: Excellent oral and written communications skills required. Proven ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment with great attention to detail required. Proficiency in Google Workspace, Canva, Hootsuite, Google analytics, Wordpress, CRM management tools, etc. required. Creative leader who is a self-starter and can work in tandem with colleagues, other partners required. Proven success in social media management and campaigns required. Initiative, energy, judgment, and critical thinking skills preferred. Understanding of environmental issues and the North Carolina political landscape, and their potential to engage the public preferred. Proficiency in videography and photography preferred. Spanish language skills desirable. HTML coding skills desirable.

    Preferred Skills: We prefer candidates that are politically savvy and pragmatic on both federal and local levels, familiar with community-based approaches to environmental management and communications. Experience and interest in media or other communications work is desirable. Additional skills and interest in graphic design, marketing, website development, public relations, etc. welcome.

    • Conditions: Able to work overtime as needed to fulfill mission. Ability and willingness to travel. This hybrid position is based in Raleigh, North Carolina.
