    Description

About Teamsters Local 237 Legal Services Plan

In 1975, the Teamsters Local 237 Trustees recognized that their working members fell between the those eligible for legal aid, and those able to afford an attorney, and so created the Legal Services Plan as a benefit for union members, providing free legal services to assist with personal civil legal issues. Today, Teamsters Local 237 LSP, housed in the Teamsters building that straddles the West Village and Chelsea, provides holistic legal services to more than 30,000 active and retired municipal employees.

    Position: Supervising Attorney

We are seeking a high-performing, Supervising Attorney to balance active client advocacy with vital administrative leadership under the direction of the LSP Director. In this full-time role, you will maintain a small personal caseload focused on bankruptcy and consumer matters while fostering a collaborative, high-trust environment. A heavy focus of this role is placed on staff supervision and mentorship; you will review trial materials, motion papers, and bankruptcy petitions to ensure exceptional quality assurance while actively running specialized training and onboarding initiatives.

Qualifications: Candidates must be admitted to the New York State Bar and the Eastern and Southern District Courts, backed by a minimum of five (5) years dedicated bankruptcy and consumer law experience. Strong litigation skills, high emotional intelligence, a commitment to public service, and a proven ability to lead a fast-paced, high-volume environment without micromanaging are required. Must be able and willing to travel reliably and frequently to various courts and field locations throughout New York City, Long Island, and Westchester, Rockland, Orange, and Putnam counties to attend scheduled appearances, hearings, home visits, closings and other necessities related to client representation. Additionally, must be able to balance on-site office member engagement with routine travel to various courts and external sites.

Knowledge of foreclosure defense is highly preferred.
