Benefits
This is a volunteer position; benefits are non-monetary and include:
Meaningful, direct impact on Delaware State University student persistence and graduation outcomes
Governance and nonprofit board leadership experience
Networking with community, philanthropic, and academic leaders across Delaware
Visibility and standing within one of the oldest Black social organizations in the United States (est. 1876)
Access to professional development opportunities in fundraising, grant strategy, and nonprofit management
A letter of reference/recommendation upon successful completion of a term, available on request
Level of Language Proficiency
English — Required (Fluent/Professional Proficiency). Board materials, meetings, and communications are conducted in English.
Spanish — Preferred, not required. Given MC917's community-facing work in Wilmington and Dover, Spanish proficiency would be a meaningful asset for donor outreach and community engagement, but shouldn't be a barrier to otherwise qualified candidates.
This mirrors how you've valued bilingual candidates in the EPC search (Flores, Polit) without making it a hard requirement — reasonable to carry that same posture here since board members aren't doing direct student-facing work. Let me know if you'd rather make English the only listed requirement, or add another language given your board's makeup.
