    Organizing Coordinator – Remote

    The American Association of University Professors (AAUP) is pleased to announce a position for an Organizing Coordinator, to be filled as soon as possible. AAUP is a fast-growing union of higher education workers. We are mobilizing the higher ed sector against increasing partisan attacks that undermine academic freedom and attacks on important gains of the civil rights movement. Our goal is to defend the higher ed sector while also leading the fight for fair wages, job security, academic freedom, an end to student debt, and expanded collective bargaining rights for higher education workers. AAUP is looking for an individual who will help transform the Association into an organized, fighting union.

    The organizing coordinator will join our growing organizing department. They will support organizers across different external campaigns, with the primary goal of helping to develop staff and move the campaign forward. This position requires extensive travel throughout the United States and will report to the Director of Organizing and Services. The organizing coordinator will work with the director to develop short- and long-term goals that move the organization toward membership growth and growing sectoral power.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The position will include the following responsibilities:

    • Oversee NLRB elections, state employee elections, and develop campaign strategies.
    • Mentor and develop organizers by providing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development to strengthen organizing skills and leadership capacity.
    • Build and develop effective organizing teams by identifying, recruiting, and cultivating workplace leaders.
    • Partner with organizers to establish campaign goals, metrics, and data-driven strategies that assess progress and inform organizing priorities.
    • Utilize membership databases and standard office software to support campaign planning, tracking, and reporting.
    • Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state labor laws related to higher education organizing.
    • Build strong relationships with faculty, workers, and other stakeholders to advance organizing campaigns in higher education.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    • 12 or more years of union organizing experience, including at least five (5) years leading successful organizing campaigns.
    • Experience leading organizing campaigns involving bargaining units of 500 or more workers.
    • Demonstrated experience supervising, mentoring, and developing organizers and campaign staff.
    • Strong leadership, communication, facilitation, and meeting management skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to recruit, identify, and develop workplace leaders.
    • Experience using campaign data and metrics to evaluate progress and inform organizing strategy.
    • Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
    • Ability to perform with frequent interruptions and/or distractions.
    • Ability to pivot and work independently.
    • Demonstrated commitment to a worker-led organizing model that emphasizes identifying, developing, and empowering workplace leaders.
    • Demonstrated ability to use campaign data and metrics to evaluate organizing progress and inform strategic decision-making.
    • Knowledge of federal and state labor laws affecting higher education organizing.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and union membership database systems.
    • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and organizing experience.
    • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel throughout the United States and work evenings, weekends, and holidays as campaign needs require.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience organizing higher education workers, particularly through successful organizing campaigns.
    • Experience organizing or working with faculty.
    • Experience in higher education policy or helping to change higher education state labor laws.

    Compensation

    Salary range: $90,356.70 to $121,608.22. AAUP offers a generous benefits package that includes health, dental, and vision insurance; paid sick days; paid vacations days; and 401(K).

    Position Classification

    This position is designated as a Senior Program Officer and is included in the staff union bargaining unit. This is an exempt position and not eligible for overtime pay.

    Work Location

    This position is remote and does not require relocation. However, the Organizing Coordinator will travel frequently to multiple in-person work sites on college and university campuses nationwide, sometimes on short notice.
