    Job Title: Legal Assistant

    Classification & FLSA Status: Full time | Non-Exempt

    Pay Range: $27.00 - $33.00 hourly, depending on experience

    Reports to: Directors

    Location: In person at CAMUR’s Los Angeles office

    Job Summary

    The Centro de Asistencia al Migrante Urbano y Rural (CAMUR) seeks a bilingual (Spanish/English) Legal Assistant. The Legal Assistant is responsible for assisting Attorneys in providing legal services as well as providing administrative support for the team’s services.

    Job Responsibilities/Essential Functions

    • Assist in completing applications for submission to USCIS under attorney review.
    • Conduct intake screening for clients seeking legal consultation, preparing immigration forms, and translating documents in Spanish and English.
    • Assist clients in preparing for their immigration exams and interviews.
    • Assist clients in gathering supporting documents and preparing legal filings.
    • Assist with client follow up and providing clients information and documents related to their cases.
    • Assist with filing and tracking immigration notices and processing times.
    • Assist with mail processing and filing of case documents.
    • Assist with organization and maintenance of online shared data systems and drives.
    • Respond to client inquiries, messages, and phone calls.
    • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

    Required Skill/Qualifications

    • Experience in immigration law (preferred)
    • Verbal and written fluency in Spanish and English languages required
    • Excellent communication, interviewing, and writing skills required
    • Cultural or trauma-informed sensitivity and desire to work with immigrant families
    • Attention to detail and effective time management skills strongly preferred
    • Ability to work well under pressure
    • Effectively with diverse groups of clients and volunteers
    • Demonstrated commitment to mission and goals of CAMUR

    Work Schedule

    Office hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday. The work schedule for this position is a 35-hour workweek equaling 7-hour workdays. The position may require some work on Saturday. Flexible work from home schedule may be offered. Work is performed in a variety of work settings, including CAMUR’s offices, workspace provided by others, libraries and other government facilities, among others.

    Work Environment & Physical Demands

    This job operates in a professional office environment. The position requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. Flexible work from home schedule may be offered on a limited basis.

    Travel Requirements

    Ability to travel to CAMUR’s offices, and other off-site locations. Mileage reimbursement is available. Ability to drive with a valid CA license, car insurance, and a registered vehicle is required.
