Part-Time Hourly Position
Compensation: $50 per hour
Schedule: Approximately 10 hours per week, as needed
Location: Remote position supporting communities across Massachusetts, with regional travel required.
Candidates located in the South Shore and Quincy areas are encouraged to apply. Reliable
transportation is required.
About Mass Union
The Mass Union of Public Housing Tenants is a union for people who live in public housing. Our board is
entirely composed of public housing tenants, and our mission is to protect and improve public housing
across Massachusetts. We are a membership organization representing Local Tenant Organizations
(LTOs) throughout the state.
Mass Union works alongside tenants to build strong, democratic resident organizations that advocate
for safer, healthier, and more dignified communities. We are committed to equity, inclusion, and
tenant-led decision-making and seek organizers who are passionate about community building and
collective action.
Position Summary
The Mass Union Organizer supports Local Tenant Organizations by providing organizing assistance,
leadership development, and training to public housing residents. This position works closely with the
Director of Organizing to strengthen tenant leadership and advance local and statewide organizing
campaigns.
This is a part-time, hourly position and is non-benefits eligibleJob Responsibilities
Community Organizing & Tenant Support
- Provide one-on-one support to tenants forming or strengthening their Local Tenant Organization (LTO).
- Facilitate regional tenant roundtables and community meetings.
- Develop and implement organizing plans for assigned LTOs.
- Follow up on action items and next steps identified during meetings.
- Support and lead tenant organizing campaigns and initiatives.
- Participate in organizing team meetings and trainings as needed.
Leadership Development & Training
- Conduct trainings on LTO bylaws, responsibilities, and effective leadership practices.
- Attend Mass Union trainings and develop skills to become a trainer and facilitator.
- Support tenant leaders in building organizational capacity and community engagement. Administrative Responsibilities
- Submit bi-weekly timesheets in a timely and accurate manner.
- Maintain regular communication with the Director of Organizing regarding progress, challenges, and emerging needs.
- Complete additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Passion for community organizing and social justice.
- Demonstrated respect for racial, ethnic, cultural, and economic diversity, with an understanding of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles.
- Experience working with public housing residents, tenant organizations, or community-based organizing efforts preferred.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Fluency in Cantonese, Mandarin, orother languages commonly spoken in Massachusetts public housing communities is preferred.
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel within assigned regions.
