    Description

    ABOUT US

Lawyers for Good Government (L4GG) coordinates large scale pro bono programs and issue advocacy efforts to ensure that all levels of government - national, state, and local - protect human rights and provide equal justice under the law. We believe not only in the establishment and enforcement of equality under the law, but in the creation of social and economic conditions that lead to true equity.

L4GG mobilizes the legal community in the defense of democracy. Since our founding in 2016, we have delivered over $150 million in pro bono legal services (including $50 million in 2025 alone). Our intersectional work spans across issues related to democracy, immigration, climate and environmental justice, racial justice, voting rights, gender justice and health equity, government accountability, and protecting the rule of law.

    ABOUT THE POSITION

    STATUS: Full-Time, Exempt

    LOCATION: Remote; location flexible.

The Pro Bono Litigation Corps (PBLC) is L4GG’s flagship litigation program, leading high-impact constitutional and civil rights litigation to challenge unlawful government actions. Backed by a network of 125,000+ legal professionals and partner organizations (including Earthjustice, the Southern Environmental Law Center, Democracy Forward, Government Accountability Project, and Conservation Law Foundation), the PBLC provides independent attorneys with the infrastructure, resources, and collaborative partnerships needed to pursue high-stakes matters.

Our PBLC team is excited to welcome two new litigators to join our team. This role will provide candidates with a unique opportunity to directly impact some of the most consequential public interest litigation occurring in the country right now. Working under the mentorship of the Litigation Director and Senior Counsel, and alongside pro bono attorneys and leading civil rights and environmental organizations, you will help the team develop strategy, own litigation tasks, and contribute to work that directly defends constitutional rights and human dignity. Ideally, we hope our candidates will bring a passion for public interest law and experience working in one or more of our ongoing litigation areas.

    SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Litigation and Legal Advocacy

    • Help develop and execute legal strategies for cases in collaboration with the Litigation Director, Senior Counsel, pro bono counsel, and partner organizations.
    • Draft and review pleadings, motions, briefs, and other litigation documents across all phases of cases.
    • Collaborate on all aspects of litigation – from motions practice and discovery through trial and appellate advocacy.
    • Support case management and coordinate litigation tasks, including both trial and appellate matters.
    • Conduct legal research and provide analysis on novel or complex public interest issues, including analysis of rules, legislation and other subjects of potential litigation.

    Pro Bono Coordination and Supervision

    • Assist in identifying and onboarding pro bono legal teams and provide technical guidance throughout the litigation process.
    • Work closely with pro bono attorneys and legal volunteers, ensuring adherence to professional standards and alignment with L4GG’s mission.
    • Contribute to the development of training materials and resources to support pro bono partnerships.
    • Serve as a key liaison between L4GG staff, volunteer attorneys, and partner organizations to ensure coordinated and effective case execution.

    REQUIREMENTS:

Our ideal candidate will have top-notch interpersonal skills, judgment, and the ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment. We need someone who can work independently with a strong sense of urgency and take initiative to identify and resolve challenges. All candidates must have access to a quiet workspace (home office or other space) with high-speed internet and the ability to take calls and/or video conferences during working hours.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • J.D. degree from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

    • A deep commitment to L4GG’s mission and to public interest law.
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated ability to produce high-quality legal work.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team.
    • Proven ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify and escalate issues appropriately.
    • Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive) and Mac computers.
    • Exceptional technology comfort and competence including willingness to embrace new tools and self-train using provided resources as needed.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Substantive experience in one or more of the following areas: constitutional law, civil rights, immigration, environmental justice, administrative law, civil service law, or federal contract law in the Court of Federal Claims. Immigration litigation experience is especially sought for one of the two positions.
    • Experience partnering with pro bono counsel and nonprofit legal organizations.
    • Familiarity with strategic litigation as a tool for systemic or policy change.
    • Experience with tools such as Clio, Asana, Slack, and/or Airtable.
