    JOB SUMMARY

    The purpose of the Global Partnership Department is to raise visibility, engagement, and donors to enable the ministry of the worldwide Salvation Army.

    The International Donor Relations Director leads the planning, coordination, and executes the operations of all development activities for National Headquarters relating to The General’s COMPASS Strategic Framework in the United States, including government, corporate and foundation grants, planned-giving, and major gifts.

    This role serves as a strategic partner to National Headquarters leadership, providing guidance and recommendations in fundraising operations and donor development for the international initiative. Leads an integrated approach to the Global Partnership initiative and coordinates with International Headquarter to ensure the proper stewardship of time, people, and monies.

    Spends time in the field to support and strengthen development staff capacity and effectiveness in Global Partnerships fundraising practices.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Leadership Responsibilities (15%): Meets regularly with the CRD and National Headquarters leadership: to provide strategic updates and fundraising insights with reports on the work of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship regarding those identified donor prospects and the relationships across territorial boundaries. Prepares an annual Strategic Plan outlining goals, action steps, and outcome measures proposed for the ongoing fundraising efforts on behalf of International Headquarters and the Global Partnership initiative. Confer with the Assistant NCRD Secretary to review and reach agreement on proposed goals before presentation to National Headquarters leadership. Quarterly reports will be submitted on the results achieved. Plans, develops, coordinates, and directs special assignments as assigned by NHQ leadership. Monitors and abide by the approved Annual Budget and administers the affairs of the office within the approved budget. Ensures fiscal accountability, including review and approval of non-budgeted expenditures.
    • Government Grants (5%): Coordinates with SAWSO and others to maintain awareness of current legislation and how its impact may apply to The Salvation Army global programming and services possibilities; assists Divisions and Territories in the development of proposals as warranted.
    • Donor Cultivation and Solicitations (65%): Under the guidance and direction of both National and International Headquarters leadership of The Salvation Army, secure the necessary charitable funding for the COMPASS initiatives for both international and domestic projects. Works in partnership with NHQ, each US Territory and the various divisions to lead and support comprehensive donor development strategies, including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Provides all the timely and accurate information, interpretation, and dissemination of materials on potential Global program impacts that are properly produced and, in both a professional and timely manner.
    • Donor Data Base System (10%): Maintains information in the donor database system as it relates to both national and international donor prospects ensuring accurate entries and confidential information. Utilizes data to support reporting, strategy development, and informed decision-making.
    • Other Responsibilities (5%): Attends and participates in conferences, seminars and training courses, Army, and non-Army, to enhance fundraising effectiveness and professional development. Performs other related work as needed.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Relations, Communications, or a related fundraising field; AND Eight years experience performing progressively responsible development work in a charitable organization, and fundraising functions through a national or international organization; OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

    LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

    Valid state driver’s license. Association of Fundraising Executives (AFP) Certification or Certified Fundraising Executive (CRFE) Preferred.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    • Knowledge of and commitment to The Salvation Army mission and philosophy.
    • Knowledge of the principles and practices of fundraising.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of and proven successful personal experiences in performing acceptable fundraising methods and strategies for current gifts and planned gifts, and foundations.
    • Ability to build relationships with high-level donors and stakeholders.
    • Strategic thinking and global partnership development skills.
    • Cross-cultural communication and collaboration skills.
    • Ability to prepare effective printed materials for educational and promotional purposes.
    • Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.
    • Ability to plan, coordinate, and evaluate fundraising events related to major donor prospects.
    • Ability to develop an annual strategic plan and administer a budget and monitor expenditures for compliance with the same.
    • Ability to prepare and maintain reports in an accurate and complete manner.
