    Description

    About Found in Translation

Found in Translation was founded in 2011 to tip the scales of opportunity across gender, race, and ethnicity, in response to some of the nation's biggest challenges: workforce development, economic mobility, institutional racism, and healthcare costs, access and disparities.

Our award-winning model, rooted in a high-support, high-expectations philosophy, offers a rigorous and radically accessible Medical Interpreter Certificate training free-of-charge; supports interpreters through all stages and facets of career advancement; provides interpreting and translation services; and advocates for interpreters and language justice in service of a dual mission:

    1. To give low-income bilingual women an opportunity to achieve economic security through the use of their language skills.
    2. To reduce racial, ethnic, and linguistic disparities in health care by unleashing bilingual talent into the workforce.

At Found in Translation, women turn their linguistic and cultural heritage into their greatest asset in the workforce. Our program is free, includes common-sense supports (such as childcare, technology, transportation assistance, etc.), and leads directly to well-paying jobs in a vital field. Our alumnae interpret in over 60,000 encounters annually, and see a wage increase of approx $10/hour and earnings increase of $13,000/year on average within 1 year of graduation.

    About the Position

Found in Translation is seeking an experienced Part-Time Grant Writer to join our diverse, passionate, and talented team. Under the guidance of the Development Manager, the Grant Writer will focus on proposal writing and prospect research, as well as contribute to grant reporting and funder communications with the goal of generating grant funding from private, community, and family foundations as well as corporate and government grant funders in order to meet Found in Translation’s annual revenue targets. In a given year, grants are responsible for ~80% of our overall operating budget, which is approximately $1.3M and growing.

This is an hourly, non-exempt (overtime pay eligible), 20 hrs/wk staff position with the potential for more hours (up to 29 hrs/wk) seasonally as well as the possibility of growing into a full-time position in the future. The position is remote, reports to the Development Manager, and collaborates regularly with the Data Manager and Program team. The work environment is a small, collaborative team that values a diversity of experience and background, and a strong commitment to racial and gender justice.

    • Produce deliverables in compliance with grantor guidelines and adhering to both external (funder) and internal (team) deadlines.
    • Optimize resources, making use of existing written materials where possible and generating new language for specific proposal angles as needed.
    • Work in partnership with data and program teams to continuously deepen understanding of the organization’s work, ensure accuracy in grant proposals, and maintain alignment between the organization’s needs and fundraising efforts.
    • Utilize feedback and research to continuously improve the quality of proposals.
    • Conduct ongoing prospect research and initial funder outreach to support the development and growth of our grants pipeline.
    • Contribute to grant reporting and ongoing funder communications and stewardship.

    • Excellent writing skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and effectively prioritize while working collaboratively
    • Flexibility in meeting deadlines and adjusting to changing priorities
    • A genuine resonance with and commitment to our mission
    • Comfort with GSuite (Google Drive/Docs/Apps) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

    Preferred:

    • Foundation prospecting and stewardship experience
    • Experience incorporating data into funder-tailored, compelling narrative
    • Familiarity with the Greater Boston funding community and beyond
    • Familiarity with corporate and/or government grantseeking
    • Familiarity with Salesforce and/or other grants management databases
    • Experience in any of the following areas: workforce development, economic mobility, women’s empowerment, immigrants and refugees, or medical interpreting
