    Description

    The National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) seeks a Director of Membership Engagement to lead analysis, planning, and coordination of NACD’s membership engagement and service delivery efforts. The Director works with conservation districts, state associations, and NACD leadership to assess district capacity, identify member needs, and develop services that strengthen member value and organizational resilience. This role provides analysis and recommendations that inform NACD’s membership programs, engagement strategies, and long-term sustainability.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Member Services and Program Development

      • Analyzes NACD’s member services and identifies opportunities to strengthen service delivery and member value.
      • Leads assessment of conservation district capacity to inform NACD leadership decisions related to membership services and program development.
      • Contributes to NACD strategic planning efforts related to membership engagement, district capacity building, and service delivery.
      • Works closely with the Finance and Operations Team to ensure quality and timely data, billings, and troubleshooting of member issues

    Financial and Sustainability Analysis

      • Conducts research and analysis to support development of sustainable service and funding models.
      • Identifies and evaluates potential revenue sources that enhance member services and organizational sustainability.
      • Prepares analyses and recommendations to assist NACD leadership in evaluating program sustainability and resource allocation.

    Member and Stakeholder Engagement

      • Maintains working relationships with conservation districts, state associations, and partner organizations to understand member priorities and operational needs.
      • Facilitates communication with members to gather input and ensure NACD services address conservation district needs.
      • Responds to member inquiries related to programs, services, and organizational initiatives.

    NACD Membership Support

      • Supports NACD membership engagement activities and coordination with districts and state associations.
      • Assists with development of member communications and materials describing NACD programs, services, and resources.
      • Supports planning and execution of NACD conferences, meetings, and member engagement activities.

    Other Duties

      • Performs other duties as assigned that advance NACD’s mission and strategic objectives.

    Required Skills and Qualifications

      • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced coursework in nonprofit management, public administration, or a related field preferred.
      • At least 7 years of professional experience in program development, membership services, nonprofit management, or related work.
      • Strong analytical, writing, development, and communication skills.
      • Experience working with stakeholder groups, membership organizations, or public-sector partners; experience with conservation districts preferred.
      • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a collaborative environment.
      • Strong organizational and relationship-management skills.
      • Willingness to travel as required.

    Location: This position can be based in NACD’s Washington, DC headquarters or a telework/remote position and reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

    Benefits

    Enrollment takes effect on the first day of the month following the employment start date for all health benefits.

    Short-Term and Long-Term Disability Insurance:

    MetLife AD&D/Life Insurance

    All full-time employees are provided (at no cost) death and dismemberment insurance along with basic life insurance benefit of 1 times their annual salary. Employees are eligible on the 1st of the month following the date of hire.

    Flex Plan:

    Annual enrollment to set aside pre-tax funds for qualified health, dependent care, parking and transportation expenses.

    Retirement Plan:

    TIAA Cref Retirement

    There are two components to the 403b contribution pension plan. Eligibility requires the employee must be 21 years or age.

    • Employee contributions can be effective immediately through payroll deduction on a pre-tax basis.
    • Employees are eligible for a minimum of 2.5% employer match contributions with a one-to-one match of an additional 2.5%, not to exceed 5% after 6 months of employment. The Vesting Schedule for Matching Contribution and Employer Contributions is: 0% after less than 1 year or employment; 30% after one year of employment; 70% after two years of employment; and 100% after three years or employment.

    Paid Holidays/Sick Time

    13 paid federal holidays

    10 days sick leave (520 hours eligible for carryover annually)

    Vacation Time

    Minimum 10 days paid vacation increases after two full years of employment and increases every two years thereafter. (80 hours eligible for carryover annually)

    Professional Development

    Each staff member can receive a stipend for allowable expenses up to $1,000 upon successful completion of the continuing education or professional development activity.

    Telecommunications Stipend

    Monthly telecommunication stipend for phone and/or internet expenses.
