    Description

    Legal Aid DC is seeking Program Coordinator to support the DC Resource Bridge.

    Since 1932, Legal Aid has provided civil legal assistance to clients in individual cases and engaged in systemic reform. Currently, we provide individual representation in consumer law, domestic violence/family law, housing, public benefits, and appellate matters. We also work on immigration matters and help individuals with the collateral consequences of their involvement with the criminal justice system. From the experiences of our clients, we identify opportunities for law reform, public policy advocacy, and systemic impact and appellate litigation.

    About the Role

    DC Resource Bridge is a citywide project, offering a streamlined process for DC residents to access legal services through a single point of entry. Individuals looking for legal help have the option of accessing services by telephone or through an online form. Applicants will also have access to in-person intake in June. The Program Coordinator will perform a combination of front desk, intake, programmatic, and administrative support duties.

    Responsibilities

    • Staff the front desk at Legal Aid DC’s SE office 2-3 days per week, including:
      • answering the phone
      • interacting with walk-in applicants, including by helping applicants fill out registration forms and explaining the intake process
      • assisting with any deliveries
      • other administrative tasks
    • Staff one of our courthouse intake sites 1-2 days per week, including:
      • interacting with walk-in applicants
      • including by helping applicants fill out registration forms and explaining the intake process
      • other administrative tasks
    • Provide programmatic and administrative support to the DC Resource Bridge, including:
      • Review new voicemails and completed online intake forms; create records for new voicemails; and assign matters to Navigators
      • Return voicemails and connect applicants with Navigators
      • Coordinate and participate in outreach with partner organizations
      • Create presentations for tabling events and partner meetings
      • Order supplies and track inventories
      • Manage invoices
      • Help manage requests for interpreters and document translations
    • Serve as a point of contact for partner providers who need technical assistance, such as updating profiles and assisting with training new staff
    • Assist Navigators with technical problems
    • Work in-person up to four days per week, as operationally needed, at any of the following locations: Legal Aid DC SE or NW DC offices and DC Superior Court
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    • Strong commitment to racial, economic and social justice
    • Experience engaging with individuals who are in crisis or dealing with trauma
    • Effective oral and written communication skills
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments
    • Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other Microsoft applications
    • Familiarity working with online databases or case management systems preferred
    • Familiarity with legal, social services or public benefits systems through lived and/or prior professional experience preferred
    • Working proficiency or fluency in Spanish or Amharic preferred but not required
    • Any of the following:
      • Paralegal certificate
      • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree
      • Equivalent relevant experience

    Salary and Benefits

    The Administrative Assistant will be paid in accordance with Legal Aid's policy based on years of relevant full-time experience. Lateral hires will receive credit for years of relevant work experience. Starting salaries are as follows:

    • Entry-level: starting at $53,739
    • 2 years of relevant work experience: $57,335
    • 3 years relevant work experience: $62,419
    • 5 years relevant work experience: $66,350

    Legal Aid generally provides two salary increases per year, depending on funding availability: a cost-of-living increase at the beginning of the year and a step increase in July.

    Legal Aid offers a generous benefits package, including eligibility for fully paid health insurance, annual retirement match, 13 paid holidays, 20 days of annual leave per year and 15 days of sick leave per year.

    This position is included in the bargaining unit represented by the National Organization of Legal Services Workers, UAW Local 2320. New hires start with a 90-day probationary period before they are considered full-time, regular employees.
