    Description

    The mission of the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) is to feed the hungry and offer programs and services to encourage self-sufficiency and improve quality of life for people in the Greater Trenton Area.

    Position Summary:

    The Development Assistant will provide high-level administrative and operational support to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and the Development & Marketing team. This role will ensure the smooth day-to-day functioning of the department and support fundraising operations. The Development Assistant plays a key role in enabling the CDO to focus on strategy, relationship-building, and revenue growth by providing reliable administrative, project management and data support.

    This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional, or someone new to the field, who is eager to learn the fundamentals of nonprofit fundraising and grow. The Development Assistant will gain hands-on experience with donor relations, data systems and cross-department collaboration, while working closely with senior development staff. With strong performance and initiative, this role offers clear potential for expanded responsibilities and professional advancement within the organization.

    Strong interpersonal and communication skills, self-motivation, flexibility, attention to detail and the ability to successfully handle multiple projects and deadlines are essential to this position. This is a full-time, hybrid, hourly position.

    Job Functions:

    Executive & Administrative Support

    • Provide direct administrative support to the Chief Development Officer including calendar management, meeting coordination, and preparation of agendas and other related materials
    • Draft, format, and manage correspondence, reports and presentations on behalf of the CDO
    • Track deadlines, deliverables and follow-up items related to development priorities
    • Serve as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders engaging with the Development Office
    • Respond to donor inquiries and requests for information

    Fundraising Operations & Donor Support

    • Provide assistance to the Donor Services team including processing gifts and donor acknowledgments
    • Support donor stewardship efforts, including tracking contacts in the donor database
    • Assist with planning and execution of fundraising campaigns and events
    • Coordinate logistics for development activities including mailings, meetings and event follow-up
    • Generate fundraising reports and dashboards for the CDO, leadership and Board

    Project Coordination & Cross-Departmental Support

    • Support grant preparation and reporting by compiling required documentation and data
    • Provide assistance to help manage volunteers, in-kind donations and off-site service projects
    • Other duties, as assigned

    Necessary Skills and Abilities:

    • Self-motivation, flexibility, attention to detail and the ability to successfully handle multiple projects and deadlines
    • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with diverse stakeholders and audiences
    • Commitment to maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of donor information, including personal data and donation histories
    • A growth mindset, willingness to learn and enthusiasm for developing new skills in nonprofit fundraising

    Required Credentials:

    • 1–2 years of administrative, customer service or office support experience (nonprofit or fundraising experience a plus).
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); comfort learning new technology and database systems.
    • Experience with donor databases or CRM systems preferred but not required.

    Compensation: Salary range: $45,000 - $50,000

    Schedule: 38 hours per week Monday through Friday
