    Description

The Alliance for Affordable Energy (AAE) is seeking a full-time Louisiana-based Policy Coordinator.

    Who We Are:

Our mission at The Alliance is to safeguard Louisiana’s future by protecting consumers’ right to an affordable, equitable, and environmentally responsible energy system.

Since 1985, the Alliance for Affordable Energy has been on the frontline demanding lower bills, cleaner energy solutions, more good-paying jobs, and better infrastructure for the people of Louisiana. As both a consumer advocate and public health advocacy organization, our policy work meets at the crossroads of social justice, sustainable economic development, and environmental protection.

In support of our mission, our team is made up of policy experts, organizers, and support staff focused on consumer advocacy in the energy and utility space. We are the only dedicated consumer advocate for utility customers in Louisiana. In our work, we monitor, educate, and participate in state and city utility regulation to ensure the public's best interests are always a part of the conversation. Our advocacy takes us across the state where we fight for energy efficiency, clean energy solutions, and to help families keep the lights on.

Our vision is a future where energy works for everyone.

AAE adheres to the Jemez Principles for Democratic Organizing and The Principles of Environmental Justice (EJ)

    Our Need:

We are currently looking for a curious and engaged full-time Louisiana-based Policy Coordinator to support our work at the Louisiana Public Service Commission (LPSC) and with the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO). This role works closely with the entire LPSC Policy Team, reports to the Clean Grid Manager, and may supervise and support the work of interns, fellows, contractors, and expert witnesses as necessary.

The Policy Coordinator has the primary responsibility for supporting Alliance policy priorities at the LPSC and MISO to protect consumers from unfair costs and burdens. This person is responsible for day-to-day coordination of policy work, education, outreach, and activities associated with protecting consumers.

This person must reside in Louisiana and have the ability to travel throughout the state. Due to the nature of this work, assignments outside of standard business hours will occur in this role, so flexibility is required. We also understand that intentional rest is necessary for success and allow for flex time to achieve our goals.

    Core activities include:

    • LPSC Regulatory Advocacy
      • Support the Alliance’s legal and policy efforts before the Louisiana Public Service Commission (LPSC) by completing assigned tasks in support of docket interventions.
        • Organize and save incoming files and documents in the Regulatory Drive.
        • Support the determination of which dockets to intervene in by performing assigned reading, summarizing, and research tasks in support of the team.
        • Support docketed proceedings by coordinating and collaborating with other Alliance counsel and subject matter experts as delegated.
        • Create and maintain Request for Information (RFI) tracking spreadsheets.
      • Support strategies to advance the organization’s formal regulatory work with public relations, grass roots, and/or stakeholder coordination.
        • Support policy or education campaign-focused webinars and community events.
        • Initiate, develop, and maintain partnerships with local allied organizations (within Louisiana, outside of New Orleans).
      • Stay current on new models of responsible energy policy and new technology.
    • MISO & FERC Transmission Advocacy
      • Provide note-taking assistance during monthly calls (MISO South State Update, MISO South Strategy, & MISO Consumer Advocate Sector).
      • Collaborate to develop written feedback/comments for MISO and FERC engagement (related to RTO and sector appropriate issues)
      • Discuss and strategize ways to increase productive sector engagement.
      • Provide planning support for events (ex. C’est Électrique, MISO Board week “Mad4MISO,” MISO-SPP Interregional planning, Data center organizing, and Nola city council transmission education events).
      • Provide research support.
    • Communications Contributor
      • Write articles on current energy policy for Alliance blog.
      • Develop written support materials about Alliance positions on energy policy and other issues of interest to consumers, including up-to-date docket summaries and regulatory report data tracking hosted on our website.
      • Partner to enhance and improve RTO and Transmission planning advocacy resources on AAE website.
      • Ensure messaging on State Policy is consistent with Alliance mission and brand.
    • Community Engagement & Power Building
      • Carry out delegated tasks in support of events aimed to broaden AAE's membership across Louisiana.
      • Attend relevant community meetings to build relationships and/or provide information and education.
