About the California DUI Lawyers Association

The California DUI Lawyers Association (CDLA) is a statewide nonprofit professional association representing over 330 attorneys who focus on DUI defense and related matters. CDLA provides education, advocacy, professional support, and networking opportunities for its members throughout California. After five years of service, our current Executive Director is retiring, and CDLA is seeking a capable, organized, and experienced professional to lead the association into its next chapter. (He will be training the new ED for this position.)

    Position Overview

This is a part-time, work-from-home leadership role ideal for a semi-retired professional or an experienced nonprofit/association manager seeking meaningful work without the demands of full-time employment.

The Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day management of the association, working closely with the Board of Directors to support members, manage operations, coordinate events, and maintain key relationships.

The role offers substantial flexibility, autonomy, and the opportunity to remain professionally engaged while maintaining work-life balance. One or two evening (6-7 pm) meetings each month; some travel required to host 3-5 in-person events each year.

    Key Responsibilities

      • Serve as the primary administrator and operational leader of the association.
      • Work collaboratively with the Board of Directors to implement policies and initiatives.
      • Manage membership communications, records, and renewals.
      • Coordinate CLE programs, meetings, and the annual conference (with vendor support)
      • Oversee sponsorship relationships and vendor coordination.
      • Manage basic financial administration (budget tracking, invoicing, payments, CPA handles accounting)
      • Maintain the association’s website and online presence (with technical support as needed)
      • Act as the primary point of contact for members, sponsors, and external partners.

    Ideal Candidate Profile

This position is especially well-suited for:

      • Retired or semi-retired professionals seeking part-time, flexible work.
      • Former nonprofit or association executives
      • Retired or former attorneys, bar association administrators, or legal professionals
      • Professionals with experience working with boards, member organizations, or nonprofits.

    Qualifications

    Required:

      • Bachelor’s degree
      • Strong organizational, communication, and administrative skills
      • Comfort working independently in a remote environment.
      • Proficiency with email, Excel, Zoom, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace

    Preferred:

      • Master’s degree (MPA, MBA, JD, or related)
      • At least 2 years of relevant professional experience (nonprofit, association management, legal administration, or similar)
      • Experience working with an association management software (AMS) system
      • Familiarity with continuing legal education (CLE) programs

Why This Role May Be Right for You

      • Meaningful leadership role without full-time demands
      • Flexible schedule and remote work
      • Opportunity to apply decades of professional experience.
      • Collegial, respectful board and membership
      • Ideal for professionals who already have health insurance or retirement benefits through prior employment or Social Security
